Does anyone have a recomendation for modern engine oil. Huh? I have been using castrol classic car engine oil suitable for 1970'S cars. Somone has told me to use modern oil as the engine is able to take it. Any advice please.  Roll Eyes

There were some post on this under Fulvia in July last year. Here below is what I posted then. I still use HPX and think it's good.

When I put my early Fulvia Sport with a 1600 engine back on the road in 1995 I knew it had a tired engine. The timing chain noise was worrying and the piston-slap when cold was dire, but it had plenty of oil pressure. I renewed the timing chain, which helped and decided to carry on using it. My preferred oil was then 20/50, Duckhams or whatever. The engine was prone to oiling up plugs, running rough and used oil at about 0.5 litre in 400 miles.

I changed to Fiat/ Selenia semi-synthetic HPX oil (supposedly 20/60) and just like it says in the advert, it worked! No more oiling up and consumption reduced to 0.5 litres in about 1000 miles. After 20,000 miles and several oil changes it’s still using about the same.

I have looked back at contemporary road tests for the 1.6HF and 1600 Fulvias and they show oil consumptions of the same, if not worse.

I guess I have got used to my modern Punto which uses no oil in 9000 mile intervals. But I am prompted to ask other Fulvia 1600 drivers, what sort of oil consumption do you experience?

I've been using "Quantam" (VW/Audi own brand) 15/40 in my 2c for the last 11 years, no problems and pretty good consumption.

Thanks for the advise.  Wink My 2000hf uses around 1liter of oil between changes, approx 800 miles. I believe modern oils are a lot thinner ? due to the tighter engineering tollerance of modern engines. is this true.? My fulvia with 7600 miles on was using arond  a half pint every 200 miles or so but it was a bit noisey an smokey. I purchased a 25000 mile fulvia which is rotten to take the engine out to replace mine. I'll post a few pics when this is finished as the car is under going a full nut and bolt re-build. thanks David Grin

I used a few different grades in my B20, including 10/60, 10/40, but in the end decided on HPX. When it first appeared in the early 80's Fiat used a 2300 Fiat Coupe with a gazzilion miles on it, to test the oil.
