Some of my recent posts under ‘Lancia cars seen on the road’ and ‘Happy Christmas’ included stuff that prompted interesting questions, the answers to which would have been off-topic. To respond to these questions, and hopefully provide a home for other nostalgic stuff, I though I should start a new topic – hence ‘Good old stuff’.

To kick off. Here below is a photo scanned from the LMC Journal of Spring 1973. It shows the same Lambda as ‘seen on the road’ on 19th December this year. This photo was to illustrate an article by John Vessey about the Mille Miglia retro of 1972 that he did with John Turner in his 7th Series Lambda. Yes, at that time it was white!

My ‘Happy Christmas’ message included a dip back into the past with a scan of a 1968 News Sheet that mentioned a forthcoming LMC film show. I am pleased to find in the LMC Journal of Summer 1969 an account of the event – see below. Happy days….

Another little dip back into my files and I find a short article by Nigel Trow in the LMC Journal of Summer 1967, which may help you wish longingly for summer drives. It is called ‘The Pass’ and hopefully you can read it on the two scans below.

Great stuff Colin. I was just thinking if we started from News sheet number one putting a page a day onto the Forum it would only take a few years untill we had the whole lot on here! Now there's a thought!!

Here’s another short piece that might be of interest.

The writer is Julian Jane, who was well known for his competition Lambda, and comes from the LMC Journal of Summer 1967. Interesting to read that the LMC in the late 1940s had a problematic relationship with Lancia (England) and that the President and Chairman had to resign! Also amusing to read that Frank Barkway, the club Secretary couldn’t drive, but he did have other qualities and I remember him as a likeable character when I met him in the ‘60s.

Here below is another great piece of writing. I do hope it’s legible! If not, email me off forum and I’ll email it to you direct.

This is by the American writer Howard Moon – it comes from a Lanciana publication on the Aurelia in 1971. Howard’s thinking at the time was focused on Aurelia, but the affliction he refers to could equally apply to other models!

Hope it’s legible.

Hi Colin,
Perfectly legible, and a great article, had me grinning from ear to ear, as I can imagine a similar situation, myself, and Fulvia Berlina parts! Grin

Here is a scan of the cover picture from Autosport of April 1958. It is of Villoresi on his way to win the Acropolis Rally in a B20.

If you can imagine what Greek roads were like in the 1950s, this must have been quite something.

Lovely picture Colin - and greatly enjoying the articles as well.   It now more than a decade since I was competing, and two and a half years since Jason and Louise "took up the cudgle" as Anthony Hussey put it to me when I first took the car on from Simon Ingman.   He's in the photo holding some eggs - a longer story than I have time for right now.   I thought photos more important than words for the moment.

Searching for photographs of our Fanalone I came across this one of it re-united with former owner Barry Waterhouse at Castle Coombe during the LMC 50th celebrations in 1997.

Jonathan had just finished rebuilding it and Barry was astonished that it had survived, let alone was once again road worthy!
