Hi, I have stripped out most of the interior of the Zagato and decided to return the car to original saratoga white. Question I need advise on is;

1.What colour would the floors have been, white or black?
2.The material that is there stuck on the floor, is it best to remove and what do I replace it with?
3.Last one, the engine bay has had a good blast and some of the matt black has blasted off. Would this have also been white or were all Zagatos painted matt black in the engine bay>

I thought all chassis supplied to Zagato were in black but I could be wrong - so floors in black etc. If a coupe then floors would be in body colour.

Hello Michael

Most Fulvia Sports should have the engine bay in satin black, but it is not 'tablets of stone'.   The works used bitumen backed felt as sound deadening on the floorpan/footwell, but it is not a good idea - usually the cause of most of the rusted-out footwells as few Sports are absolutely watertight, and the felt retains the dampness   I have successfully use self adhesive bitumen panels to completely line the inside of the floor / bulkhead.   Bodyline (trade name for Brown Brothers products) and Terosyn (spelling?) supply panels in 500mm square, and it is about 1/8th thick.   Can be cut with scissors/Stanley knife.   Apply a little heat to the metal and also the bitumen panel with a hot-air gun, before peeling off the backing paper.   Can be easily moulded into the contours of the floor swages, and is very sticky.   There is also a fine surface seal paper which can be removed if you want to spray over it.   Omicron also supply a suitable sound-deadening material, which again is not water adsorbing, is thicker in body, and acoustically damping.

Frosts also sell heavy duty, rubberised, self adhesive sound deadening pads, 200x500mm at 5.50 each www.frost.co.uk, which appear to be similar to that suggested by Roddy.

The engine bay was indeed matt black, however I am not so sure about the interior panel work. The interior was carpeted almost invariably black, I have a very good and reasonable supplier of carpet for the Zagato I have used for re-doing my Sport if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer Phil but I have just ordered a new interior which includes the carpets.I have gone for a mid biscuit leather with dark brown carpets. Makes a change from black I guess.
