first of all thank you for replies on brake querie. finished the welding today and undersealing. tomorrow bleed the brakes.
reg.the bleed nipples:one thing I would like to mention again it may help someone, use the usual wd40 then tap  the metal on the caliper. tap the end of the nipple and finally slowly pour a kettleful of boiling water over the caliper leave for a few mins then slowly unscrew the nipple it really works.

next questions and I hope they make sense re. the carbs. running rough.

starting from the rad.the first choke there is a raised round ali. female opening next to the identification tag. should this have a brass taperd screw as choke no. three? also just noticed this today where the carbs mount the manifold the rubber appears to be split. I tried to put a feeler gauge in and I think it was hitting some thing solid, could air be sucked in causing the carbs to run rough? if this is so can you still buy the rubber seals? I hope this makes sense.

Splits in the rubber are common if the support arm under the carbs is not secure. They are still easily available from places like Omicron etc but cost about £100 IIRC.

I repaired my rubbers with some particularly ferocious windscreen fixing stuff I got from my local supplier.  It is like black mastic but plasticy rather than rubbery and sets "hard" and is called Arbomast Auograde windscreen sealing compound.  It is impossible to get off once it has set so be careful where you put it.

We use a similar product at work for replacing windscreens, its so strong we glued the apprentices moped wheel to the tarmac,  and it held, had to cut with a knife to let him go home, but was great fun watching his moped getting nowhere. Grin

hi david, reg.the sealing compound would I have to remove the carbs. or can this be done in situ. is it the type of thing halfords may have or is it a specialised item?

To repair the carb rubber support is necessary to remove it and glue it as indicated in previous messages. Be careful not to damage the various gaskets.Carbs will need rebalancing after reassembly and refitting of the support bar securing them to the oil filter base. Good luck, Andrea

Bill,
is your rubber mounting all one piece or two seperate items, ie one per Carburettor? I have 1 nearly new item suitable for 1 carburettor 35mm, marked S441/A1108053. if your interested.

hi brian, thank you for the e mail I have tried to contact Goeff when I send the e mail my computer keeps shutting down. I am not  good on these things, I only hope it has went through.
just had a look at the sandwich gasket althouth it is a little dark in my garage I think it is all one peice.

the car is coming along well cleaning the seats so getting excited.  just the carb to sort and double check the brakes for air locks before I do anything else.

not sure where to place this. had a great day yesterday (sunday) marshaling on the tyneside stages on the otterburn ranges. not sure how many members have ever been to a tarmac rally like this but they are not to be missed. if you have the chance to attend one.this is scary stuff the speed of the cars (no lancias) is unreal the no 1 car was a wrc hyundi what a car. I was watching as the driver left he took the revs. of the clock the noise was fantastic, when he dropped the clutch the car left like a bullet out of a gun fantatic.
