We’ve discussed having a drive out at the next meeting as it is so close to the longest day and I proposed a route : here it is :

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=tormarton&daddr=B4060%2FWotton+Rd+to:B4058+to:51.678516,-2.334251+to:B4066%2FSelsley+Hill+to:cambridge,+glos&hl=en&geocode=%3BFTzkEwMdoPzb_w%3BFVBcFAMdOt_c_w%3B%3BFd9wFQMdi87d_w%3B&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=13&via=1,2,3,4&dirflg=h&sll=51.671171,-2.297859&sspn=0.058659,0.12394&ie=UTF8&ll=51.614393,-2.350044&spn=0.058733,0.12394&t=h&z=13

I hope the Link works !

The route goes from Tormarton => Wotton-under-Edge => Dursley => Uley => Stroud => Cambridge. It’s about 1 hour and 32 miles.

The roads are : A46 , B4060, B4058, A4135, B4066, A419, A38 (hopefully you get the idea)

We can either go from the Compass Inn or from Cambridge (I think it’s the Bridge Inn – Rich knew it) – I don’t mind as I’m between the two !

Let me know your thoughts ! If the weather is good then the views above Stroud are amazing and there are two ups and two downs in the route – hence it works from either way.

If there is a consensus then we’ll go with that & and as an added bonus the apprentice has now finished (no excuses please! )

I’d propose a slightly earlier get together just to make sure there is time for "one" at the other end (even have a bite to eat first ?)

The link works fine for me!

I'm in Tunbridge Wells on the 24th, for a meeting scheduled to end at 5pm, so heaven knows what time I'd arrive back at Tormarton - probably 8ish. If you were heading out at that time, I could join, though I would need to get out of the car for at least 5 mins to stretch my legs!

For a minute when I saw Cambridge I thought you were heading in my direction and I could meet up with my old local members, then I looked at the time allowed Grin

Ok, the forecast is good for tomorrow and I have "positives" from people so we'll be doing the drive. However, it won't be starting until people arrive and are ready ie: from 8:30 onwards. Any (expected) arrivals later than 9pm please drop me a line.

The route plan is up above - please print a copy or bring an Atlas Smiley

See y'all tomorrow.

PS. The Pub in Cambridge is The George Inn (according to the Internet) - it's NOT the White Lion (there are only two)

Smiley

Just to give a brief review of this : we managed to do the drive - although a slightly later than planned start - but a beautiful drive on a beautiful night with the added bonus of us all being able to stay together and the rare event of no other cars getting in the way!

The only problem was that when someone turned on the M5 to head home then everyone followed, rather than reading the instructions .... hence we met at Falfield one junction down the M5. As lead car this left me somewhat puzzled but I had Harvey in the car with a mobile and we were able to rearrange another rendezvous on the move Smiley

However, the drive works both ways and we're planning on doing the reverse direction next month Smiley

I'll post the reverse plan here : slightly different but still includes 3 ups and 2 downs : choice of M5 or A38 for the first bit - depends on time.

We planning to meet at the Huntsman Inn at 7:30pm , to leave at 7:45 and then to be at the Compass for 8:45 ... still in daylight and still enough time for a social chat. All welcome - an email reminder will go out nearer the time Smiley

Here is the plan :

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Bristol+Rd,+Falfield,+Wotton-under-Edge,+Gloucestershire,+GL12+8DF+(The+Huntsman+House)&daddr=B4066%2FSelsley+Hill+to:B4066%2FUley+Rd+to:51.649129,-2.332535+to:compass+inn,+tormarton&hl=en&geocode=FXTkEwMdOXTa_yF29av9qH7Cgw%3BFcBoFQMd5s3d_w%3BFeiMFAMdpofc_w%3B%3BFWnuEQMdID7c_yHBPxGHTO7qIQ&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=11&via=1,2,3&sll=51.673833,-2.298889&sspn=0.242287,0.609055&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=51.645294,-2.421112&spn=0.24244,0.609055&z=11

Sorry about turning off, but it was 22:45 and we had a long way to go home and a patio to lay the following day.  But we enjoyed the drive around the Cotswolds - particularly nice with the top down on a warm evening. Charles

That's no problem at all Charles, I thought that would be the case as it was getting late ! We're planning (see above) to go the other way next month but ending up in Tormarton around 8:45 so they'll be time for a chat at the Compass.

It was especially nice being lead car and having your Flaminia in the mirror Smiley
