hi, have my rad. back hope to fit it tomorrow. do I need any special coolant? and what capacity is the cooling system? any tips on bleeding the system or is it striaght forward?

also can anyone help with oil filter? I have taken mine off as it is a little rusty the only letters and nos. I can see are, ocar -49 0170.

For an S2 1.3 its 6.3 litres (including heater). You need to make sure that the thermostat has cracked and the heater matrix is full by operating the heater valve. If filling from scratch I removed the temperature sensor in the top water rail (behind the thermostat) to help it bleed. You can fill from here as well, it's fiddly but it can get the highest point free of air if you need. Remember to put it back before you start it !

coolant capacity 6.3Ltrs for 1.3 and 7Ltrs for 1.6 engines respectively.use 30%antifreeze/70%water.this is according to the fulvia concise shop manual.i normally mix the water +antifreeze in advance then pour into COLD radiator,start engine and top up till warm squeezing the hoses,refit the rad cap, run engine till hot ,check temp guage+feel rad which should be hot by now.also check rad fan operates-a manual overide switch may be a useful addition to electric fans-also check heater matrix and its drip tray+drain pipe for condition+operation.i had mine recored along with the rad

On the oil filter front "ocar" was once Tecnocar. I believe, as I have bought them from motor factor shops before, that the Fulvia oil filter was the same as used on Rover V8 though someone might shoot me down in flames if my memory is wrong! They won't have a tecnocar one though. These are certainly available from Omicron and probably elsewhere.
I understand some filters (not tecnocar) allow the oil to drain out of them which is not good on start-up.

I've just bought 2 oil filters for my Fulvia 2c from Omicron at 7.85 +Vat+P&P

Supplied were Omicron part number 2300672U Fulvia Oil Filter UFI/Fram.although the part number on the box itself is 2310202.

On the box it says comparativa
Fiaam FT4863
Fram PH 2821A
Mann & H W 940/24
Purolator PC 237-OC 37
Technocar R 49.

Filter x 2 = 15.70
post           6.50 (pretty weighty!)
Vat            3.34

Total cost 25.54

The same filter has been used by myself without any problems at all for something like 10 years.

In fact I have seen this same filter advertised on ebay for considerably more than what I pay Omicron.

My motor factors in Colchester is a Fram Stockist and has Fram PH 2821A(well 1) on their shelf I ordered another 6 as they were 5.40p ea!!!!

The manual gives the capacity of the whole system. Quite a lot of coolant (more than one liter) is however in the engine. Unless the engine is taken apart, it is virtually impossible to refill the system with 6 or 7 liters. Good idea to backflush the system via the hose joining the drain cock at the back . I do this regularly every 24 months. Andrea

Brian, I am advised they are made in Italy as are most by same manufacturer as your list indicates!!!! Same internals - Fram is a really top brand so I suspect the annual filter change is not a stressed component!
