There is some information out there but I can no longer find it.  I would like to fit a modern type oil filter to my expensively rebuilt engine with its shell bearings.  I understand this has been done, please tell me how...

I left my reply for a while in the hope that I'd also get to learn how to do this job based on some real experiance.

My plan - from a long time back - was to take the feed out the front of the sump and back in to the strainer housing.  This would require a blanking plug to be drilled out of the sump and tapped for the fitting, and for a plug to be fitted to the sump to block feed.

A neater solution would be to have the in-and-out from a plate using the strainer mountings but I never got as far as working out how to seal the inlet from the outlet internally, or if there was space for both fittings next to each other.
