Me too, I'd even plump for one of the excellent replicas, there was one at the Lancia Driving Day event which had been put together to a very high standard.

There is a kit being built about 6 miles away from me , which where i live ( mid Wales) a Lancia is a very rare sight on its own, Shocked this will be built to  a high standard as he owns his own garage, this is running a v6 alfa 164 lump. when built i will get a ride in it, and report findings.

A good idea to start this thread! Here’s a previously unpublished photograph by the late Roger Perry, which he took of his Stratos as it was when he imported it from Germany in 1979/80. Amazingly, he used this as his regular daily car and when he lived in London it was parked in the street overnight. Happy days!

I'm glad Roger started this thread, as when I was new to the LMC Forum I couldn't understand why nobody had posted anything here.

But now I think I know, having just read an older "Auto Italia" Issue # 140 (it was in a 'goodie bag' I got on our recent Drakensberg Giro), and the article "7 Year Itch" by Chris Hrabalek - the designer of the new Stratos.  (The article's about the once-every-seven-years Stratos event when the exact date and location is only sent to Stratos owners at short notice.)

Chris writes, "Although the original Stratos was styled by Bertone, powered by Ferrari and manufactured by Lancia, the car's keepers rarely feel at home within clubs or events dedicated to these diverse brands or followings.  Stratos owners feel most at home among other Stratos owners; friends 'in the know' that have taken the same decision to acquire an automobile that is more Richard Mille than Rolex."

I think the Stratos community always knew they were onto something very special. In the 1980s there was a Stratos owners club that even ran to having club postcards printed – see below for scans of back and front. It’s astonishing now to think that postcards were used to communicate at that time. But what a car park!

Tony,

What a lovely prompt for me to post this picture of the Chequered Flag Stratos! This is a Roger Perry photo from the LMC meeting at Donnington Park in 1978. Next to the Stratos is Barry Waterhouse in ‘Rastos’ and an Aprilia Special beside him, and in the second row there is Barrie Crowe’s B20, John Savage’s B20 and an Aprilia driven by Dave Scheldt.

Seems like yesterday!

Yes, back in those days in South Africa we had a postal service too and people made time to write lengthy letters.

Here's a Stratos owners club envelope from that era.  (BTW I didn't find them to be at all toffee nosed like Hrabalek claims, but that's journalism for you.)
