I'm trying to remove the crankshaft pulley and the bolt is clearly very tight. Before I use more force could someone please tell me if the thread is a normal right hand thread - that is to say counter-clockwise to undo. The engine is out of the car.

It is a normal thread. When I needed mine undone, I went to the local tire fitment shop and they loosened it with their industrial truck air gun. It was also VERY tight

Thanks, that's good advice. My Makita impact gun is fine for general work, but is nowhere near powerful enough for this job - not sure my ageing body is up to it either!
