Good evening all,

My crank needs a 10 thous grind and I wondered if anyone has any suitable new old stock Vandervell bearings available for sale?

Mains and big ends.

Many thanks,

Jon

IAs a project I am overhauling a Fulvia engine that was in a bad way and am worried the crank may be scrap as there is a nasty rust mark on the edge of one of the journals. The repair manual only shows two undersize bearing sizes (10 and 20 thou) but LanciaLulu is saying he has 30 thou bearings. Does that mean it is acceptable to grind the crank to - 30 Thou?

Paul if the scroing is bad I would get another crank. I have a good standard 1300 S2 potentially for sale......

If you take the crank to an engineering company they'll be able to advise, would be a shame to scrap it without further investigation.

Mine is a 1300 S1 engine but apart from the pilot bearing I think the crank is the same as an S2. Am I correct and one just has to change the pilot bearing?

I have been recommended CMS in Bracknell as a good machine shop. I will take the crank there for their advise.

S2 needs to be fitted with 9mm pilot bearing which is a unusual size (30m dia) but available.

I have a crank at cms in Bracknell at the moment, and a block being bored to 80mm. They're also gas flowing a head.

Tim, is this the correct spigot bearing for the s2?

That is for an S1 crank. S2 has an outer diameter of 30mm from memory.

Hi Jon
I would be very interested with your rating of CMS, especially cost wise. This engine overhaul project of mine may be an expensive mistake as it is in far worse condition than I first thought.
One idea was to convert to 1400 cc as you are doing as the bores will need a deep grind and as I need new pistons and rods I may as well create something a bit special, as long as the costs don't spiral out of control. Would appreciate your feed back.
Cheers

Hello, they aren't cheap but I'm confident they do a good job. This is my second 1400 build and the first one is going well. They pressure tested the head on this build and found a leak, they have milled out the offending part and fitted a new core plug. I suppose if this detail had been missed it would have caused a lot of trouble further down the line.

Notes..

Cps for pistons, I have spare rods if you need?

I have the head gas flowed and fit 1600 valves.
