Absence of Timing marks on S1
« on: 29 September, 2023, 07:46:04 PM »
An earlier post ( in 2008)  referenced no timing marks on a S1 Fulvia.  I seem to have the same problem. Although TDC is possible any thoughts on setting timing ( ideally with strobe) Do I have to count teeth ( not sure on how many all the way round) and then calculate where to paint dot on and even this will have an error.

Clues welcome.

And  I thought ownership would be straightforward!

There should be a TDC mark, but not an Ignition mark……is that what you have? If so you can time from TDC….10 degrees.

Agree, most strobes have a facility for setting the timing of the spark relative to tdc.

On S1 1.3 engine timing is set 2 teeth before TDC which is indicated by a flywheel mark (often difficult to see because of old dirt).
