I hope someone can help with this ignition switch related problem.

I recently had an ignition failure on my Aurelia. After looking at everything obvious under the bonnet and not finding anything astray, I checked the ignition switch on the dashboard. The ignition cable was almost entirely separated close to the switch, with only a few strands attached.

The wiring is almost entirely original so I put this down to age or wear and tear. Perhaps small movement of the switch from time to time in the housing has gradually parted the strands of cable.

It would seem straightforward to re-connect the cable to the terminal but a cursory inspection suggests that the cap needs to be removed for this purpose.
Does anyone have any experience of this? It would be useful to know if there are any surprises to be aware of such as random springs etc.
The switch appears to work fine so I would hope not to have to go any deeper.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Aurelia Ignition switch connections are either via a screw compression type or on later cars I seem to think its via soldered 'bullet type' push in fittings.
No need to disassemble the switch itself in either case.
Usually by unscrewing the ring on the front face of the dashboard, the connected ignition switch can be swung down from  behind the dashboard to expose the connections.

Yes, battery safely disconnected! Better to be safe than sorry.

All fixed, back up and running now.

The interesting part is that the engine seems stronger, smoother and more willing to go up through the rev counter.
I need to do a proper road test but I think that this may be beneficial all round.
