Can anyone advise me if the drain tube which attaches to the carburetor drip tray is fixed with a clip at any point along its length?
The manual suggests that it is, however, I don't know where I should be looking to attach the clip to?

Yes, its is clipped just before its end, at the bell-housing.  The piping then exits in the gap between the starter motor and crankcase.  Hope of some help?  Send me a PM if you want a photo to clarify.

There is also a metal p clip attached to the rear upper bolt of the oil filter housing holding the drain pipe tight inthe gap at the rear of the crank case.
