We have a project 1961 Lancia Appia Vignale convertible that has been in progress for a few years.
We are at the point where we have to make a decision on colours and would appreciate views on whether we have missed anything or are making decisions that may impact our ability to sell later on.

The car will have a soft top and we have the hard top. We are going to have these sprayed black.

We have a red hide for the interior, but this can be changed if necessary.

On to the body colour.
We are thinking silver. The petrol flap was painted in silver from a Daiwoo Matiz collection.

We have picked out a couple of silver options from the Fiat / Lancia swatch books, and we are planning on selecting one of these.
There are other combinations we like, but this is our preference. The colour we were thinking was Grigio graphite 628A.

Any views on whether there are any protocols on this are welcome. Appreciate the pictures only give an indication of actual colour.
Also, if anybody could advise on era / car for the graphite it would be appreciated.

Pictures below.

Many thanks

Nick

Am afraid those swatches as from later era and the fleck and colour components will not be period correct. There were a few metalic greys (lighter ones looking like silver). It would look very nice in Grigio Newmarket.

Hello Nick,

If you've not seen it already, perhaps this is of help: https://www.clublanciaappia.it/wp/restauri/ There's a link to a list of Appia Vignale colour names & codes: https://www.clublanciaappia.it/wp/wp-content/uploads/restauri/Colori%20Appia%20Convertibile%20Vignale.pdf

Hoping to see some pics of the finished paintwork in due course.

Hi Nick,

I'd go for Grigio Epsom with the red leather.

Ps
I'm currently interested in buying an Appia Vignale, so if you know of any available cars in the UK please let me know.

Regards,
Andy

Brian Hilton looked up the list of horse racing tracks Lancia named their colours after:

Lancia records indicate that the S3 Appia Vignale could come in two grey colours, namely Grigio Escoli and Grigio Epsom. Andrea

Wrong period and really only a comparison rather than true colours but both of those here:

https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_lancia_1970

The big difference is Grigio Escoli being metallic, at least in THAT period...

Many thanks for all the helpful replies.

We have worked our way through them ad will let you know the outcome.

Chris
The car has spent along time in pieces. the shell at the sprayer, the engine and parts in my garage and the gearbox at my sons workshop.
It was all in my garage the year before last when we effectively built it all up to make sure (as best we could) things worked and we had all the parts needed. We then dismantled it all again for spraying.
We are hoping to get the car back from the sprayers by November and then we sill start rebuilding it again at my sons unit.
I will start up a new thread nearer  the time and document progress if there's enough interest.

Andy,
I'm sorry I can't help with knowing anyone with an Appia Vignale for sale. On this forum there is a Lancia Vehicles Required section under the Buy Sell and Search section that may yield results, or it may be better to start a new thread under the Appia section. Good luck

Assuming that the Appia Vignale will be used mainly in summer and knowing that future summer weather will be increasingly hot, a white car (possibly with cloth interior) will be a lot more comfortable to drive. Andrea

Thanks Andrea, they are both good points to consider. I think it would look good in an old English type white with a tan interior. Not sure about the hard and soft top colours though.

All in the mix atm, but I think we will end up with a silver / grey based colour
