A bit of a longshot but does anyone know of anyone with a series 1 Berlina Tow Bar, perhaps anyone who might be able to supply one, or where to obtain the dimensions? Watling Engineering used to be able to supply one, but they no longer do so. I'm assuming a towbar for the Coupe would be different due to the shortened chassis? Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Brian 8227

We had one on our 2C in the 1970s. From memory one of the attachments was 4 bolts through the base of the (vertical) spare wheel trough just ahead of the rear panel......so completely different to a Coupe where the spare wheel just lies flat horizontally on the boot floor. I think it was a Witter towbar btw. Chris

Thanks Chris, can you remember if there were any further fittings, possibly alongside the chassis rails? Brian 8227

It may be worth contacting this company to see if they could fabricate a bar. I have no connection with the business but have seen some of their work and its impressive. http://kloseengineering.co.uk/about/

Hi Brian,
My S2 berlina came with a tow bar, can't imagine it would be very different from the S1?
I'll take some pictures if it helps.
Ian

I might be wrong but won't the dimensions be in the workshop manual in the body section? Clarkey

Hi Ian, I can’t see that there can be too many differences, and I can always check if there are any differences in chassis dimension. Any photos would be great, can you possibly email them to me please. Many Thanks. Brian 8227.

From memory (nearly 50 years ago!!) that doesn't look like the Berlina S1 towbar we had. Is the spare wheel in a S2 still vertical up close to the rear panel? I seem to remember that ours had a 4 bolt attachment through the base of the spare wheel cavity ( the holes here had to be drilled) as well as the bumper mounts........and maybe another attachment as well. I will keep my eyes open when in Italy as there are quite a few S1 Berlinas in our area. Chris
