I have two Fulvias, a series 1 and a series 2. My series 2 doesn't have an oil cooler and I would like to get rid of the one on the series 1. It is currently having the engine rebuilt and now would be a good time to do it. Firstly I assume there is no reason not to do this ( Im not racing it ), and secondly does anyone know the thread size if I blank it off?

Just acquire a standard oil filter mount. You will sell your kit for a few hundred pounds assuming in good condition.

I would however recommend keeping the cooler , getting new pipes (a good hose and hydraulic shop should be able to do this) if you are ever going to use your Fulvia for touring Europe in the summer.

Why would you not want to just reinstall the cooler?  Was it getting in the way of something or maybe faulty?  My oil cooler came in a box of parts when I bought the car and I was intending to get it reinstalled at some point.  So curious why you wouldn't want it any more.

They are quite sophisticated with integral thermostat (check it works) that prevents the oil from being cooled when it does not need to.

I have removed the oil cooler from my Rallye. It needed new hoses and while it was off someone told me that it restricts the flow of oil around the engine so I didnt bother putting it back. It also lightened the car by 4+kg.

I am sure that "someone" was not from the Lancia design team.... I have them on all my Fulvias.

Probably not, but perhaps the same person who designed the exhaust manifold, or the fan, did the oil cooler. They are great little cars but not perfect.

Regarding the original question of size, this is from my Flaminia. Pitch is 1.5mm I think.
