I’m about to fit a 123 distributor to my S3. It comes with some shims which fit between the drive cog (which comes from the existing distributor) and the bottom end of the distributor body. Am I correct in understanding that the shims are required to achieve a gap for float/play of 0.1 mm?

The technical data book states end float to be 0.1-0.3mm. Smaller the better.
