My 1600 Zagato has postero-inferior rust meaning that the panel at the back below the number plate has gone in holes. It forms part of a "box" section that strengthens the rear of the car. Does anybody know of any panels, either reproduction or modern-that-can-be-modified that I can use to restore her beautiful bottom?

I used a piece of Mk 2 Jaguar sill that I had in stock once. If you have a friendly replacement body panel supplier locally I suggest you have a mooch about for something similar.

Hi David,
I have just replaced the entire rear section of my car below the waistline including the area you talk about. It is a tricky area to do particularly if the side sections aft of the wheel arch also need replacing. I had an entire piece made up that ran from the centre of the rear lights either side and went up to just into the start of the number plate recess by a chap who specialises in Zagato panels. I also removed the 'lip' that is connected to the cross member in the boot and welded it all flush so there would be no dirt traps as the standard Zagato design creates a beautiful ledge from dirt and water to accumulate. Where abouts in the country are you?

Hello David, Cumbria is a bit far for me, I will give my chap a call and see if he can make another valence, do you also need to repair the 'inboard' panel which drops down from the beam below the boot floor?

Reading with interest your problems and solution on the rear valence for your Zagato.
I have just purchased my first Zagato and the rear valence needs replacing, your chap who makes the panels sounds like the ideal solution to my problem, have you his contact number?

My son knows someone who rolled a panel to match the cut out original. It wasn't a very good fit, we had to cut and weld it and it will need a fair bit of filling. It is on the car though and, when finished, should look OK especially with the rear quarter bumpers in place to disguise the seams. So, I haven't really got a solution to the problem apart from saying find an old fashioned body shop with a wheel and be prepared to do a bit of fettling and fudging.
