My Fulvia Sport petrol tank is weeping fuel from the top, has anyone recently bought a new or refurbished tank as it looks as though mine has had a hard life, maybe caused by too many heavy things being carried in the boot. It looks the same as the Coupe and Saloon, appreciate confirmation. Is there anyone who makes them, I thought I remember reading that there was but I cannot find reference on the Forum pages.

Sport is the same as coupe. Make sure it has a return pipe (S2). I think all the tanks are from the same source and all S2. You probably will need a new square section rubber sealing ring for the filler pipe junction.

Chris, is the tank repairable, either via sealant on the inside or welding on the outside after suitable cleaning and safety precautions observed?

Hi Neil, it has been repaired with some sealant previously but I think because of the weight of the spare wheel on top along with my tool bag and occasionally cases, that eventually the bouncing of the weight due to our road surfaces will again break the new sealant. Also I think it looks like the tank is a recovered one as there is also some damage on the securing flange so I am going to bite the bullet and get a new one.

I bought one for my S2/3 Fulvia coupe in June this year from Autobella. Excellent service, well made tank with excellent spec. and delivered the next day. A fair price too IMO.

Thanks everyone. To finish this Post, to bring you up to date, I ordered one from David Ashworth and received it this week but his courier let him down by loosing it for a couple of weeks, but I wasn't in a hurry so no problem. It was packed well and I have just taken the old one out and as Tim said, it is a good idea to replace the square section seal for the fuel delivery pipe connection and I have also cut two new fuel pipes ready for the new installation. The seal under the fuel gauge sensor assembly looks good so I will re-use it.

I forgot to say, as I didn't have a specific tool to grip the fuel filler pipe connecting nut, I used my chain oil filter canister remover and it unscrewed quite easily with that.

A large jubilee clip will also work around the filler pipe nut, then remove afterwards.

Good idea. I gave up with mine as it was some sort of plastic. I had to break it. Fortunately I had bought a nice shiny brass one from pieces-fulvia just in case.

I guess I was lucky to have a brass one, maybe from an old Lancia parts bin rather that a later plastic one from the Fiat bin.

Hopefully my last notes about my tank swap. When I received the new tank I did not think to take the drain plug out to check its condition, it like the rest of the tank loked welll painted so I thought best to leave it alone - WRONG! After fitting the tank I duly filled her up and guess what, little drips coming from the drain plug. I tried tightening it, but did not make any difference. So bit the bullet and drained it again and on seeing the o ring I was not surprised, it was broken and the inner edge was badly damaged. I managed to buy a kit from RS Components, ordered at 5.30 last night and delivered 9.30 this morning, great service and one of them fitted well, I also smeared Hylomar Blue over the o ring and thread just to make sure and the result looks good. Now onto the next job!

Chris Did you not remove the old drain plug from your leaking tank. You would have found an exotic vertical filter (may in need of repair) that protects crud from the tank going up the delivery pipe.. https://www.pieces-fulvia.com/fuel-tank-cap-filter-lancia-fulvia-coupe-11172872.htmTim

I did remove the drain plug from the old tank but because I wrongly assumed the new drain plug would be ok, I didn't think to replace it with the old one. The old one was in good condition so I will keep it as a spare, interestingly it was in a very clean state so at least the old tank was not internally contaminated.
