So, in addition to sorting the fuel smell, I'm and planning to change the points, condenser, dizzy cap etc.. They've not been changed since I bought the car 3 years ago. But before I do so, can anyone recommend an electronic ignition alternative?
Any guidance greatly received.

I run a luminition system on the standard distributor on my Flavia Vignale iniezione. Keeps it looking standard.
The only issue I have found with Luminition is the small electronic box needs to be well earthed to the car chassis.

Ditto with Tim’s last post. Have had the Luminition system fitted since I’ve owned my Flavia Coupe. Makes starting so much better, takes most of the ‘will it won’t it’ out of the procedure.
Cheers, Peter

Thanks both for the note on Lumenition system. Is there a particular model number you are using or they all generic?

Not generic. Give them a call with your distributor model (Marelli 105A??)

Mark,
I fitted a Pertronix electronic system to my Flavia a few years ago and it has worked perfectly since. Easy starting and smooth running and it’s all contained inside the distributor so no control module to mount/hide.

Is it a straightforward thing to install? And roughly how much did it cost? My Flavia starts on the button and runs smooth but I'm always interested in mods that add modern efficiencies.

My 2000 came with Sparkrite already fitted by a previous owner, but on my Beta and my Fiat 124 I've had an Aldon Amethyst system fitted - this allows you (or in my case my mechanic, as if I touch cars I break them) to tune the car by way of ignition advance, and supplies interesting data about the engine via some software that comes with the kit. For example, you can generate graphs showing knock and lean vs rich mixture at various engine speeds and what not. Both cars have been improved quite a lot by this device - worth a look in my view.

I have a Powerspark ignition on my Beta and fits into the distributor to keep the look original. They list for Marelli distis, but worth checking it is compatible. Very simple installation and not expensive and U.K. supplier.

Thanks Every one. After speaking with the guys in Norfolk I have fitted a 123 - it was about only marginally more expensive as a new dizzy, points, Rota arm etc... Starts ad runs well know... Mark

There have been more reports of 123's eating spark plug. Not sure how.... Be interested in your long term experience.

Ref fitting a 123 Distributor: for my Magnetti Marelli, I had to get this from Huib in Netherlands, as the UK distributor [no pun intended] only had Fulvia type drive cog, not the two-toothed dog my 1970 Flavia 2000 coupe needed. Huib said it is important to get the right coil, 1.5 amp. He can supply these also [red coil], I got a Viper dry-core which seems to be fine. I think it is important to get either ballasted or non-ballasted coil, but I can't recall which [sorry!]. I've no problem with plug-eating, but then I did invest in those high-end iridium, pointed-end plugs. After around 5,000 miles, the engine continues to pull very well, with no hesitation throughout the rev range, and feels to be happily delivering the full 115 bhp [carb model]. The 123 dizzie is not cheap, but I'm delighted with it. Mark I
