Together with another member of the Railton Owners Club I am working on an article on the coach builder E.J. Newns in Thames Ditton, also know as Eagle Coachworks. They are reported to have build 12 Aprilia’s in the late 1930’s, the majority were cabriolets but they did two or three saloons. We have not been able to find a photograph of such a saloon, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could ask your forum members whether they can help with this. Any other information on Newns/Eagle is always welcome, of course.

Be safe and healthy, best wishes for Christmas,

This Aprilia Saloon was at a Club event in 1995, if my memory serves me correctly it was by Newns, but I can't be 100% sure.

Here's a stash of pictures of the Eagle Cabriolet. I find it a far more elegant car than the saloon.

Do you have any address details, Thames Ditton is four or five miles from me, happy to take some photos of their location

Newns / Eagle Coachworks of Portsmouth Road, Thames Ditton were mentioned in Motor Sport Magazine, November 1935 as per attached image.

It looks as if Eagle, like a lot of companies in WWII, then turned its ability to helping the war effort; in this case making plexiglass domes for the RAF: https://www.gettyimages.ie/detail/news-photo/the-work-force-of-eagle-components-ltd-newnes-factory-news-photo/591982074
I realise this is Eagle Components rather than Eagle Coachwork(s) but given the reference to Newnes (sic), Portsmouth Road and Thames Ditton it seems reasonable to assume it's related!

Nothing to do with Eagle Coachworks other than they also moved to Thames Ditton from West Norwood and also switched production during the War - interesting history though

The picture captioned as Eagle components making plexiglass domes must be miscaptioned. I'd say they are making drop tanks.
