I have always used Michelin.
Michelin X are now available ( made with a modern compound which are good in the wet unlike the old X's) you need to check they are for tubbed tyres,
as tubeless tyres do not fit that well on Appia rims.
The sliding pillar suspension is very sensitive to badly fitted tyres and wheels out of balance.
Cause a shaking through the steering wheel at certain speeds.

Mine came with 1960s Michelins.  I have fitted Pirelli Cinturatos which are good.  Period shape and look, modern compound.

I'm running on Firestone F560s; I don't think they have been available for quite a few years, so although they have plenty of tread they may not be in the first flush of youth!

I tend to bin tyres at age five regardless of wear.  I am just about to pop for a set of new Pirellis for my Beta.  If anyone wants my old Michelins as show tyres (they are way too old for road use), let me know.
