Aprilia doors opening angles
«

What should be the total angular movement of the front and rear doors of a 1949 S2 Aprilia berlina from the closed position to fully open? Mine do not seem to open as wide as some that I have seen while scouring photos on the internet.
Regards,
John Larkin.

I will measure mine (47 S2 Berlina), however it may be easier to measure opening distances - my trig skills are a bit rusty , all I remember is SOH, CAH , TOA

John.
I have today had to adjust one of our rear doors which was opening too far.
This gave me a chance to have a good look at the construction and it seems inevitable that opening angles will vary.
The stops are welded to the shell in what looks like a slightly random way, (none of mine are vertical). There is no provision for adjustment.
Because the sockets that the door balls sit in are able to rotate and move in and out to accommodate door fit, the point at which the finger will hit the stop will vary.
On none of my four doors do both top and bottom fingers hit both stops.
If the door fits the opening then I think the only adjustment would be welding a bit on (as I have had to do) or filing some off if you need more opening. Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

Door opening 1938(?) Aprilia
Taken outside just above the swage line
Passenger side rear 138 deg passenger front 128 deg
Drivers side rear 126 deg Drivers door 122 deg
All doors are approx 2mm clear of the body when fully open.
Hope this is helpful.

Dear Dave,
Thank you for the measurements from your car. Am I correctly interpreting the angles you gave in my attached sketch? I hope the attachment works!
