Just back from a good day at Shelsley Walsh - a shame that we were the only Lancia there. We managed 5 runs up the hill in a S1 HF that's geared for climbing. I've only done a few runs up the hill, and still learning it, but it's great fun and very well organised. The Midland Auto Club put on driving school days, which is definitely worth doing for the more serious, and there are plenty of opportunities through the year to drive the hill. The record is just under 22 seconds. I think I did about 48 - so there's room for improvement.

Bit of pinking in 4th under load towards the end. I've fitted a 123 ignition to it as it had a Fiat 124 Spider dizzy on when I got it - which caused quite a bit of pinking no matter how I adjusted it. It's a USB interface one that allows real-time curve tinkering. Just need to go to a rolling road at some point.

Cheaper than going to a rolling road is to find a favourite hill and start backing of the static advance (assuming you are running 1.6HF advance curves). I run 11 degrees static advance quite happily on 11.5 compression ratio 1600 HF with Var1016 (Holbay) cams and massive valves...
