Trying to restore the windscreen washer button to the emd of the stalk on the steering column and can't quite get my head around the wiring on this.  I still have connected a brown wire that goes up the stalk to the press plastic  button, but nothing is working.  Someone has rigged up a seperate switch to the washer motor which works fine.  Any words of wisdom from anyone?

Yours in hope.

Have you checked

a) the button on the end of the stalk actually is earthed to the stalk so when the button touches the point termination of the brown wire the wire is earthed.
b) the stalk is earthed (ie metal to metal contact with stalk unit to the steering column metalwork.

all the above can be checked by seeing if the brown wire is earthed when the button is pressed. The Lancia installation is to switch the earth (-ve) to the pump (live being fused supply)

You may wish to check that the switch installed is not switching the pump live......

Thanks for this, which of course makes sense.  I'll check this out tomorrow.

The problem with the washer bottle is the plastic switch on the end of the stalk. The spring in the button has gone so two questions;

1. Can the plastic switch be dismantled and a spring replaced? or
2. Does anyone have a plastic switch for sale?
