Can anyone advise the best way of removing the old cap and flange on the CV joints.
Hopefully a photo is attached

Thats a tricky one. I have never had to replace the cv joints on my Fulvias - maybe rebuild them (you can get the 18mm (IIRC) balls at most good bearing outlets)....

If you are determined to swop the sheilds over you could try induction heating the pressing so it expands quicker than the lumps of steel and tapping them off. Use something like Boltbuster with a long LITZ wire wrapped round the diameter. May work may not....

Got one of the guys in work to chop out these. Worked a treat. If anyone has the same problem I’ll happily post them off.
Turned what I thought would be a weekend of work into a ten minute job.
Now onto the next job.

If you can find "Wheeler Dealers" Series 15 No 8 on line somewhere you can see Ant Anstead remove these caps when replacing the CV joints.
He put the CV joint in a vice and prised the caps off with a screwdriver.

Hi

Similar to what I have on the Beta Cv joints and as mentioned above I seem to remember using just a large flat bladed screwdriver and worked round it until it lifted off. Refitting was a similarly simple press on job.

So half shafts are going back together, a few questions.
Where does washer ‘a’ go?
What is the plastic ring ‘b’ for?
I have the old washer so know it came off but can’t remember where.
I’ve looked in the manual but it doesn’t really show much.
Dry fitting it without the washer the CV joint appears to fit perfectly to allow the circles to fit.
It’s a sloppy fit on the shaft.
