In amidst the misery of the Augusta (to paraphrase Private Eye) see posts passim, was the mention of the loss of reverse gear on the B10 on the way back from SPR.
This morning I have got round to having a look. With not much hope I thought to inspect the gear shift linkage but all the front parts were hidden and looked very complicated so I turned my attention to the rear and it looked ok except very greasy and a bit loose where the M10 bolt goes through the U-shaped end of the long heavy rod from the front.
I cleaned it all off and the rubber of one of the 2 bushes looked tatty and it came away in my hand. Honest Guv, I hardly touched it.
To see if this was the problem I made up a quasi-bush with rolled up gaffer tape , squeezed it in and replaced the bolt.
Eureka! All works normally.
I suppose I ought to get a couple of new bushes (just asked Cavalitto) but I suspect I shall leave as is until it happens again as I will know what the problem is!!
So, my advice is always go for the easiest option as just occasionally it pays off.
