HI,
Also if the car is not in your possession, it might be worth getting it back before a decision is made or you might find as soon as it is written off, the car will be sold to a breaker before anything can be done.
When I had my accident the assessor came to the house and was talking about writing it off as he was valuing it as a Mondeo at £1500, when discussing it he mentioned that they use a cost of 80% of the value, when I said that meant £4K of work he started to change his tune. But I did warn him that if they were going to write it off I would be buying it back and as it was on my drive if it was removed without my approval I would take as theft and pursuing it.
Luckily they repaired the car.

Hi,
Just an update, the insurance company rang and wanted to write it off but after some chatting they are happy to pay me an amount to repair if I can either get a more sensible estimate or we agree an amount. I think that's fair. So I am now thinking I can use the money and get repaired elsewhere as my current garage (Zagato Lancia) will cost too much - but the problem I have is I have no where else to take it. Who do you guys use?
I really want to keep it on the road as its a pretty straight car, but also want to take to someone reputable etc. Being based in London has always meant I'm kind of tied to Zagato. Maybe its time to cut the strings?

It would be interesting to see some pictures (if you can bear it) and some idea of what needs doing.

I can't work out how to attach via the forum but can send to a personal email if you really want to see it. It doesn't make me cry too much!
The garage have quoted 16 hours labour for the removal and replacement of sub frame, suspension arm and other mechanicals. 31 hours for all bodywork and jig work. All 4 wheels need to be refurbed due to the way the car was shunted into the kerb. The 4k doesn't include parts.
So if I can find a good bodyshop with some space and a jig that can do the damage, I can source the parts etc I reckon it could be done at a fraction of that price.

You attach photos using the "+Additional Options..." thing just below the text box on the left side of the screen.
That drops down a set of tick boxes for reply options and below it an "Attach:" legend with a long text box and a "Browse..." box to the right of that.
When you click on the "Browse..." box it opens the "File Explorer" screen of your computer and you can navigate to the picture you want.
Click on the picture and its' title appears in the "File Names" box.
Click on "Open" at the bottom of the file explorer window and it puts the file name for your picture in the forum reply "Attach:" box.
To more pictures click on the little blue "(more attachments)" text to the right of the "Browse.." button.
The photos mustnt be too big so I use an image resizer programme and make them as small as possible.
I hope all that helps. Youu seem to be on top of the job as regards repairs. Good second hand parts and a bodyshop that isn't charging insurance prices should get you there.
