Whilst my tyres are still looking perfect with lots of tread and no evidence of perishing rubber or cracks, they are all date stamped around 2003 so a change would seem prudent.

I'm aware of Longstone tyres, but a set of 4 Michelin XZX 165 SR15 will cost around £460 - £500 from them.

Has anyone else got a recommendation for a supplier of Flavia compatible tyres that might better that price?

www.vintagetyres.com

I've only gotten inner tubes off them, but competitive.

Have you done a general  comparative search, or any supplier offering a club discount?

At the moment (I don't know if it is just a seasonal offer), Longstone Classic tyres are doing Michelin XZX 165  15 for £408 for a set of 4.

There are other makes out there that might do the job for less, but I was hoping to hear from others about the good, the bad and the cheap!

 Vredstein T-Trac 2  https://www.vintagetyres.com/shop/en/tyres/vredestein-t-trac-2

Practically a budget tyre and might be OK as we are talking about Classic Car use (those 2 weeks of summer when it's dry). Has anyone ever tried them. There has to be a good reason why they're so cheap?

Have bought Vredestein  for other cars before, no problems to report.

Same tyre? There are similar sizes reviewed.

I have bought a set of Michelins from Longstone for my Flavia vignale steel 15 inch wheels and I run them tubeless.

About £120 difference in the price of 4 Vredestein T-Trac 2 versus 4 Michelin XZX.

So a 30% saving on the Michelins. So it really is a question of whether, or not Michelin XZX tyres merit the extra spend?

These guys certainly don't rate the Michelin, but they were testing a higher spec of Vredestein tyre. https://classicmotorsports.com/articles/retro-rubber/

XZX! and I looked up my file and realised I had got a better deal with the other lot - that was in 2016!

The other lot, you mean Vintage Tyres?

I have Vredesteins on my Sport and have had no problems. But then I do only 2-3000 miles a year. They took me down to Truro for Brin Edwards's funeral Sun/Mon through snow and slush and puddles and were sure-footed.

I've had Vredestein Sprint Classics on my Flavia for 3 years now and really enjoy them.

They are available in the factory size, 165r15, and handle about the same as the much more expensive Michelin XAS or Pirelli - though some Sprint Classics drivers think they are actually a better tire than the Michelin!  Where I reside, the Vredesteins were about 1/3 the price of the Michelins.

Yes I have read good things about the Vredstein Sprint Classic, but in the UK it actually retails at a higher price than a Michelin XZX?

The Vredstein T-Trac 2 is the one that comes in at ~30% cheaper than the Michelin XZX, so I'm curious how that spec of tyre rates against the Michelin.

I believe Blockley Tyres are doing a special deal on their superb quality own brand tyres, call 01386 701717, ask for Julian and please mention Retro-Speed Magazine.
