Title: Rear Axle Oil Seals
Post by: Augustacab on 17 October, 2017, 03:08:55 PM
I am starting the process of replacing the rear oil seals on my Augusta - I have seen the notes in the Newsletters so am happy about the new oil seals - but how do you draw out the half shafts after you have removed the bearing retaining nut and out seal? Is there anything else I need to know?
Thanks

It just pulls out. You might have to make a puller if it's stuck. Or borrow mine, if I can find it. It's a simple bar with two threaded holes and a bigger hole in the centre which goes on the half shaft, under the nut.

Hello all,
One method to pull the half shafts is, to refit the brake drum loose onto the half shaft and use the drums mass to bump out the shaft.

If you want to modify the outher seals as well, be aware that there are two different sizes for it, the early ones at 38 mm dia. the later ones at 42 mm dia. (see picture, left late, right early)
