Title: Bristol Group Christmas Dinner 2017
Post by: GialloHPEIan on 10 October, 2017, 12:06:45 AM
Hi Folks

As regular attendees will know, Steve Pilgrim has organised the Christmas meal for the past few years (and what a great job he doe's!), but he will not be doing so this year due to work commitments.
Therefore, I have offered to make arrangements in my home town of Frome, Somerset if enough people are willing to travel outside the Bristol area (30 miles or so). There is a Premier Inn on the edge of town and a Travelodge around two and a half miles away plus a small number of independent B&B / guesthouses for those that would wish to stay overnight. Frome has developed into a very arty, café culture, rural market town which attracts many visitors. The date which was favourable to most at the last meeting was Saturday 9th December. The chosen venue would be Castello's Italian restaurant in the town centre, which is not offering a traditional Christmas dinner, but plenty of interesting alternatives....

If you are interested or have any questions, please get in touch to give me an idea of numbers. If there is not enough interest I guess the alternative would be our usual meeting place at The Bull, unless someone has any other ideas!

Regards,

Ian (6610)

Ok folks

After an initial lacklustre response, I have secured a booking for an alternative venue for Saturday 9th December at 7.30pm, as the original choice no longer has any availability.

We are now going here:-  http://theroyaloakcorsley.co.uk/

and the Christmas menu is here:-  http://theroyaloakcorsley.co.uk/menu/christmas-party-menu/

So far we have 9 confirmed and I will be emailing those who attend most years who may not be regular visitors to this forum!

Please feel free to forward your menu choices to me in the meantime, i'll sort out deposits / payments in the near future. Many thanks.

Regards

Ian (6610)

Hi Folks

Just a quick note to let you know we so far have ten people confirmed to attend. It's not too late if you wish to join us.
For those of you who are coming, and will be at tomorrows monthly meet at The Bull, £10 deposit per person would be appreciated please. I will bring a copy of the menu also for those who have not yet made their choices.

Regards

Ian (6610)

Thank you all for coming. A very enjoyable evening with great company and lovely food. I hope you all got home safely.
Well done to Ben and Niki for being the only people to arrive in a Lancia (their trusty Integrale).

Merry Christmas to you all.

Regards,

Ian (6610)

Hi Ian

Thanks very much for organising the evening, the location and food were both great ! We'll put the 'lack of Lancias' right by having a summer outing as it's a lovely drive down there from Bristol.

Merry Christmas All - see you soon !

Steve and Claire

i would like to add my thanks to Ian for organising us "Herd of Cats".

I don't think I qualify as the only Lancia as I believe Charles was there in his Delta 3.

Ben

My thanks as well Ian, clever of you to pick a location just up the road from me.  And, yes, Ben is correct, I also attended in a product of "Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino" carrying a "Lancia" badge even though it might have been sold orginally - under false pretences -with some strange American badge.  Happy Christmas to everyone. Yes thanks Ian for organising a most enjoyable evening at The Royal Oak ;D. It made a nice change to have our Christmas get together outside of the Bristol area. Full marks to Ben & Charles for turning up in their Lancias, hopefully I'll be able to attend next year in my Delta HF turbo! (Fingers crossed). Thanks also to Simon for giving me a lift  ;).

Well you certainly did better than we did at on the Herts& Beds Christmas lunch at the Fox near Harpenden.
Two couples from our group had previously been there to try it out, and with favourable reports, The ' Festive Special 3 course Menu was booked for a party of 10.
On arrival, although the pub/ Restaurant was festivally decorated, there was nothing festive whatsoever on our table, not even a solitary cracker😕
when the waiter came to take our orders we were informed that due to them being let down by their supplier, there was no turkey ( never mind that a mile up the road there is an M& S food store, A waitrose, and others, any of which I'm sure would have been delighted to supply turkies), and as we soon found out, Christmas pudding, that had also fallen foul of said supplier, after a few comments we were asked what wine was like in compensation , a red was chosen, and a single bottle was offered for 10 of us😣 a few hoary pertinent comments later this was upped to 2 bottles. Talk about a let down.

You are all very welcome.

Apologies to you, Charles, I was unaware of your mode of transport for the evening. Had I known, I would have been very interested in having a closer look and trying to convince the good lady to consider one. She tends to like vehicles of German origin and food of Italian origin, so half way there! ;D

Ian any time you fancy popping over for look and a coffee you'd be welcome.  There's usually some other interesting stuff here too - Augusta, Appia and Flaminia at present. Charles
