Post by: Parisien on 20 February, 2017, 02:40:49 PM
Just noted this in this months Classic Cars magazine, only two Lancias, an Appia and his own Integrale, but lots of other juicy Italian offerings!

And a Motom !
Almost a Lancia,  a very modern design by Battista Falchetto, the designer of the Lambda

(I also like the Fiat 124 coupe in that sale, looks like a nice car!)

It's seized and in a right state Frank. And it's been for sale for months on gumtree and eBay. Not for me although someone will most likely buy it for a mobile pizza oven.
Plenty in Italy but most are restored.

I was thinking of going to this auction as there were a couple of Lots apart from the Ercole which might have been of interest and as it happens I was going to be in the UK on the day.
But..... only this week after a couple of years of looking on and off I have finally found a good 1957 Ercole here which is complete, a runner and the right sort of price. It has just been delivered here and we are very excited.
I don't need to bother with the auction now but it will be interesting tom see how much the Ercole goes for.
Our new addition should prove to be useful for a variety of agricultural type uses here once I have fully checked it over and tidied it up a bit. I think it will also be great fun if a little slow but it came with a set of chains so good in the snow?

That is brilliant Chris!!!  How lovely to at last get an Ercole after waiting for so long. I hope you and Jacky get a lot of fun out of using it!!!

By the way, do you drive it or ride it????

Result! Your patience paid off in the long run, how many near misses did you have or nothing you'd trawled through ticked enough of your boxes?

Brilliant !

You will have a ball ...... cab on or cab off ? I found that it was too noisy with the cab on, plus I like the wind in my hair

Thanks Simon,
I think I will probably take the cab off to give the engine a good clean and going over but I did really want a cab in reasonable condition so I might refit it later.
I hope to have time to have a proper play with it next week sometime but we are very busy pruning at the moment so the Ercole will have to wait.

I see the S3 Appia didn't sell. What sort of price should it be going for?

Interested to see that it was withdrawn, rather than not sold; does that mean an offer was accepted before the auction?

It's difficult to put a price on an Appia, so few come on the market, but I would have thought a left-hand drive Series 3 like this in fully roadworthy condition should fetch £6-8,000, so deduct what you think this one needed to make it a runner, and I would guess that puts it at around £4,000?

I know this isn't an Ercole thread but as we have a lull in vine related activities here now having pruned and tied in, I have spent some time looking more closely at our Ercole and formulating a plan.
It will be a 'sort out the mechanics and leave the cosmetics' project for now we have decided, particularly as I have a nice S4 B20 to finish reassembling this year.
I now have the Ercole engine starting (kick start with no valve lifter) and running reasonably well having discovered that the fuel tank had lots of rubbish in it and the main fuel tap wasn't either opening or closing fully.
The hydraulics for the tipper work perfectly well but I have no rear brakes ( the front cable brake works but is rubbish) so I started with the master cylinder which is now at Past Parts in the UK being resleeved. The rear wheels are help on by 5 x handed brass 22mm nuts each side and the drums are held on by large nuts and handed locking nuts, all of which are beautifully made.
One rear brake drum is resisting my best efforts to remove it by heat, puller and hammer but I will win this battle somehow.
The other one came off easily and the handbrake mechanism and general quality of engineering is again very good. I seem to have the later 60's steel wheel cylinders fitted which I am optimistic will just need honing carefully and resealing and the handbrake and footbrake mechanism is generally worn and needs rebushing  The brake backplates are like new albeit filthy and today I have invested in a power washer to use after Gunk + brush action on various parts of the vehicle.
I have a new wiring loom for €35 and probably the most expensive thing I will have to buy (so far!!) will be a new silencer @ €160 but for the moment I have patched up the existing one in an effort to quieten the thing down.
All good fun though and my aim is to try to have it ready for use either for our grape harvest in September or more realistically our olive harvest in November.

Glad to know of the progress Chris. That B20 might prove to be a distraction!!!

Just one thing, any photographs of the progress with the Ercole? They would be greatly appreciated!!!

Start a thread in General Chat?  Should we have an "Other Projects" section?

Not quite an Ercole, but in UK it appears, no connection to seller.
