Post by: Richard Fridd on 11 November, 2016, 06:39:23 PM
Advertised in VL, but I can't find it on the RTCC website. Anyone here know this car?

Hi Richard,
I spoke with Richard Thorne a few weeks ago, they are trying to free the engine, the car having been stood for many years in dry storage.  There's some metalwork to do, don't know how extensive though.  The interior was West of England cloth, probably need redoing.  What's your view on the car?  I've been tempted to go and look.

RHD and a beautiful shape, so if I had the space and money, I would buy this car. PF Coupes probably won't be getting any less expensive. Will Flaminias become more popular than Aurelias in the future? Although a double edged sword, as s/h spares are not at breakers yard prices. £5000 for a work of art.

I agree with you, a work of art!  I think if it has been stored in a dry place then rot may be localised if that makes sense.  I think Richard T mentioned floor edges and possibly sills.  A full blown resto is quite an undertaking though.

'When you see a chance, take it'. Metalwork used to be a DIY job. I think these type of cars are the fun end of the spectrum. Engine problems could be less fun! However just a few hundred miles in my PF (and gazing at it) have been worth the investment.

Are you trying to talk the interest and price down here Richard!!!

Seriously, if the car is fundamentally complete then I think it is worth a go at that price!!! As Richard said, PF coupes will not get any less expensive ..... and I agree, it is a work of art!!

That aside, I do have a (damaged) front bumper which could be used at least temporarily

One could always do 2 at the same time ..... the price is quoted as 1000 euros but that is not necessarily the price they want !

Not necessarily the price they want,  how does that work then?

On the advert it says - "Make an offer" so the 1000 euros is just the headline grabber - very frustrating because you phone up and offer 1000 euros and then they say "I actually want 5000"

So why didn't you say that in the first place !

Maybe its the guy who ran the RM auction in Italy, just to catch peoples interest and then find the "estimates" were nonsensical?!

A few years back I got a group of GT owners together around the world an we placed a group order on Harringtons - whereby we negotiated the price significantly down...so it works both ways I guess

Cheers
