Title: Magneto / Dynamo drive
Post by: JohnMillham on 20 September, 2016, 01:57:26 PM
My Lambda's mag/dynamo drive is non standard and the "rubber" part failed on the way to the French Rally, just after leaving Switzerland. Can anyone suggest where I might find a replacement (or two!) as nobody seems to recognise where it came from? It has 20 teeth on the outside and should have 19 inside. It's 75 mm diameter overall. Any suggestions?
Regards, John

John,
I have no idea where you could find this part! I have never seen a similar one. However, it could be remanufactured.
As you have the 2 metal drive parts on both sides, 19 and 20 teeth, they could be used to make a mold, which could then be used with the adequate rubber to produce modern replacements.

Maybe the people doing rubber bushes and drive parts could help. http://robush.com/
Or specialists doing casts for dentists?
Or you might try the Prewarcar website - they have been running a series of articles showing how obscure parts are remade - you could contact them to see if they will take up the challenge.

However the quality of the rubber, shore hardness, is critical for the reliability of the drive.

Good luck!

Thanks Sebastien, but I think the best bet might be to replace the coupling unit with something more standard. I will give it more thought first - and wait for the car to be returned from France.
