Title: Reaction Bar
Post by: fay66 on 20 May, 2016, 11:28:14 PM
I've had a rattle from the rear that I thought was perhaps a shock absorber bush, finally managed to check it out and found in fact the silentbloc bush in the adjustable end of the reaction bar is shot, it's the end connected to the rear axle, question,  are the silentbloc bushes & pins available? if not has anyone one get a spare reaction bar please.

Hi Brian, are you sure the pin is actually worn? Theoretically the pin should not wear as the bracket/central steel tube/pin assembly should all be locked together. As to the silentbloc, I suggest you remove it and measure it to find out what you need then Google 'anti-vibration bushes'. There are so many companies offering silentbloc type bushes it is unbelievable. I have always used Robush, their website is not user friendly, but the staff are very helpful 01473 738569. I have their catalogue and you are welcome to give me a call, but surprisingly it does not list everything they hold. I think it's the more obscure ones that are excluded!!

Good luck with it all, Andy

Silent blocks and special bolt are available from Cav or Om. The head of the bolt is thin and only had two flats so not enough to hold it when I did mine 10 years ago. But then I did not think to use an air gun and mole grips..... If you get it out Robush may have a bush to suit.

My air gun is at your disposal if you want to pop over and do the job at mine once you have the bits.

The other end is even harder to tske off.... You have a few months before Fay faces the ultimate challenge....

Thank you Gentlemen for your most helpful suggestions and experience,
I'm quite surprised just how thin the flats are on the pin, but I'll try my mole grips and see if that will hold the pin, Andy, I was thinking the pin might be damaged as the rubber of the silentbloc bush seems to be squeezing out of the sides, but you're probably correct that the inner sleeve is taking the impact, I suppose the inner sleeve of the bush is taking the impact, so the pin might be ok.
for the life of me why didn't Lancia use a proper hex head on the pin, as I can't see why it would foul anything.
As it happens the nut came loose easily, but then came the problem of holding the other end when the pin started turning.
As I've got to take the bar off would it be better to change both bushes?

Thanks Frank I'll probably take you up on your kind offer when I have the bits.

I rang Omicron and I had a pleasant surprise as they have the silentbloc bushes at  about £15+ vat each, while they have had the pins remanufactured and cost about £7+ vat each, so I'm going to do both ends.
