Title: B12 - a couple of missing bits
Post by: chriswgawne on 27 October, 2015, 05:08:00 PM
I have finally found and eventually bought after a somewhat tortuous 6 month negotiation  a good original B12 but there are a couple of bits missing and I wonder whether anyone might be able to help please?
Firstly the windscreen washer reservoir tank is missing. I have the Trico vacuum mechanism which fits in the top of the tank but not the tank itself.
And secondly the spare wheel which sits vertically in a well in the boot is held in place by a webbing strap with what must be a sort of 'hook' on the end which hooks onto a bracket on the body. I have the original webbing strap in good condition but not the hook fitting on the end....and I have no idea what it looks like. Can anyone help with either a photo of the missing part or ideally the part itself?

Thanks Chris

Chris, that  is good news, well done. What is the condition, is there much to do?

I should think Frank (are you looking Frank) will be able to give you webbing strap hook details .... either that, or he needs one, maybe the whole thing!! himself.

If you need the head off then James (Chugga) has a plate type puller .... another bit of interesting hand luggage to get through security!!!!

Again Chris, congratulations on your recent purchase, wishing you many happy and safe miles in the premier Italian saloon of choice in the 1950s!

Looking forward to the photos and maybe see it in the flesh sometime.

Regarding the Trico washer bottle, these always come up on Ebay, there are a couple of them on now, either as complete units with all the gubbins including cage or as parts. Prices also vary a lot depending on demand, I least I have paid for a bottle and rusty cage is £10 ex postage.

I have also converted mine to an electric pump, as it never worked for the MOT, a very easy job. I even brought a spare vacuum push switch for £5, cutting the back off and then mounting an electrical push switch inline to keep dashboard integrity.

Thanks Are. I have the webbing strap but not the buckle. Is the first part of the 'buckle strap' metal? And is this your B12?

I have Trico glass bottles and cages but I think these are Flaminia. The B12 tank is metal (aluminium?) similar to but not the same as B20. If I can't get a B12 tank I am sure I could fit a B20 one......if anyone has one available?

Hi Chris, not my car. From memory the whole thing is metal, with an over centre catch on it.

Chris, Frank,
Here the photos of the strap buckle fitted to my car.
Hope this helps.
I forgot to take pictures of the Trico washer bottle - next time!

I think I now have the parts for the vacuum windscreen washer reservoir and valve but the spare wheel buckle is still an issue. However I now understand that the same or very similar metal overcentre strap is
Fitted to Series 1 Appias.
Can any Appia owner help me please?

Hello Chris, exactly one year since your first post announcing your purchase of a B12. Happy birthday!!

I hope that you are having plenty of opportunities to enjoy it to it's full potential.

Belated thanks Andy,
I don't recall seeing this when you posted it!
Our B12 is a fine car and in many ways is nicer to drive than a B20. Its quieter, more rigid, better made and sits on the road very well and with the 2.3l  engine, large front brakes and high final drive it feels very relaxed and safe  on the Autostrada.
Jacky and I are enjoying it very much as do our visitors who have a huge amount of room in the back .....and with carpet on the floor as original whereas the front of the car  has just rubber mats as originally fitted.
