Title: Trying to find a part: gear linkage mount
Post by: Andy D on 17 March, 2015, 07:26:59 PM
I'm try to source a part for my 1300 LX and have so far drawn a blank.  It is part number 82432438 and is item 9 on the attached image from Eper (it is also common to 1600 front wheel drive models as far as I can gather).  Anybody got any suggestions?

Many thanks
Andy

What's wrong with the old part? could it be re fettled if a new one isn't available?

Andy if the part is still available from fiat (iper should say....) then someone like Tanc Barrett should be able to order it for you from Italy.

Google search showed some russian sites carrying it.....

Andy,
Item No 9 has a circle with a line through it which means no longer serviced, but if you click the part number when in eper (it doesn't work using the photocopy!) it should show the part that replaced it if one is available, it should also show the other models in Lancia/Fiat that it was also used on.

Just been into eper and it shows as no replacement available, why not try a Fiat Dealer and ask them to search by part number there might be something left in the system, or ask can a query be raised to see if anyone still has one on the Continent.

The old part has a rubber element which should be bonded to the steel element but it has perished and become detached.  It might be possible to do something about this but I think it would be a specialist job which I might end up exploring.

Eper does say the part is no longer available and unfortunately there is no information about a replacement or other models when I click through.

There are quite a lot of links on Google when you type in the part number but none of them have borne fruit as yet.

In better news I have managed to track down a used part from an HF Turbo that is being broken up and I should know tomorrow if it is in good enough condition to use.  Hopefully it will be in better shape than the original and at the very least can be used on a temporary basis while I try to work out a longer term solution.

Thanks for your replies everybody,
Andy

Andy,
I spoke Stan Sweet who I first met on the Fulvia Knights Rallye, Stan is going to try and check to see via a Lancia Dealer in France, if by any chance there's something available on the continent.
While ther may not be anything here, it was a much larger market so you never know someone  might have one buried away.

That's very kind of you Brian, thank you.  I'm sure there's one out there somewhere...

And thanks for the link to the book David, might come in handy!

The used part wasn't any better than my original in the end so the search is still on.

Hi Andy. Is there a chance of a picture of the offending article?

Not much luck this end I'm afraid. Sent out emails to various Lancia places here. One did actually make the effort to phone me yesterday. He asked if the car was in the UK? I said 'yes' and he said 'In that case you need to contact Chrysler as Lancias are no longer sold in the UK'!  I suppose you've trawled Italian Ebay? Is this too late a model for Cavalitto? Do you think with their contacts they might be able to suggest anything?

Too young for Cav.

Thanks for trying, I really appreciate your help.  And yes, Italian ebay was pretty much the first place I looked.

I haven't managed to get pics of my part yet but these are pics of the part that came from spares car.  I've been told that my part is in a similar state.  Apparently there should also be a stud in the middle which is bonded to the rubber.

Perhaps a ball joint would do it instead of rubber...or a tiny UJ...

Thanks for the suggestion David, certainly worth exploring.  My mechanic friend (who currently has the car) is exploring options with his suppliers and sounds hopeful that he might be able to work something out.  I'm feeding back comments on here to him too!

Not the way its intended to be used but perhaps a start:

http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/budget-gear-linkage-universal-joint

Not ideal but could cut this down and bond it in:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ball-joint-linkages/7124982/

...or weld it in:

Perhaps more obvious would be a rubber bush in a steel sleeve, if you can get one soft enough.  It doesn't look like a suspension bush would work.  I'm assuming the rubber gives some movement rather than just there for refinement.

The latest eper doesn't allow you to look to see if it was also used on other models in the Fiat range, so we need to look at an old copy of eper, I have a 2005 edition but I can't get it to working correctly, I can go to the first page but I need page 4 which is the one shown above, but every time I try to move to that page it just reverts to the eper home page?
So anyone else got an earlier copy they can look at? if you just click on the item 9 part number on the main parts list to the right, it should take you to where you can look at it to see if it was used on other models in the Fiat Group, at least that way we'd know if there was another possible source.

Just to say thanks again to everybody who came forward with help to my earlier call for help.  Although I still haven't got hold of the part I was looking for, I do have a workable solution that seems to work pretty well and now have a gear change which is (almost) as good as it should be.

Am delighted to hear you have a solution - and before the summer is gone.

What did you come up with?

I am running ePER 18th ed. 2005 and have looked up the part in question using the part no. and I can confirm it was only used on the 1986-92 Delta. No Fiat, Alfa, Abarth or Fiat Commercial vehicles used this item. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Glad to see you have found a solution.

We used another bush in the end that was sourced by my friend.  It seemed to be a good fit once it was cut to size as the original was a lot longer than we needed.  The shortcoming is that I don't think there is quite as much rubber as the original but it's a minor grumble.

I had a feeling that was the case but thanks for looking it up and confirming.

In use does it feel any different?

Comparing it to my HF Turbo it feels a little bit hard edged, or wooden. In practice it just means that I have to be a little bit more deliberate with my gear changes than I do in the HF.
