Title: Tyre sizes
Post by: Davidb on 03 November, 2014, 03:10:59 PM
At some point I will need to replace the tyres on my series I Fulvia sport. Current tyres are 145 x 14 on Safari wheels. I am thinking of whether to fit new 145s or increase tyre size to put more rubber on the road.

Options I am considering are:
Fit new 145s
Go up to 155 but probably not more on the same rims
Locate some 165 rimmed wheels that will fit S1

Any comments or suggestions?

Probably best on the 145s. These are Flavia 2000 steel wheels (with enlarged centres) with 175/14 tyres, which obviously gave higher gearing.

Thanks for that Richard.  I think I probably will stay with 145s.

I'm running 165 x 14's on my 2c Berlina, originally she would have been on 155 x 14's but when I put her back on the road in November 1999 I could only get 145 x 14, and although she ran ok she always felt under tyred, with the 165's she rides much better if slightly harsher, but it's improved the handling no end.
Ask anyone who was on the Fulvia Knights Rallye to Turin last year ;D

if you stick with 145's I have a pair of part used FOC, that just need collecting from Central Bedfordshire

Thanks Brian.  I'll give it a bit more thought.  The tyres on the car currently aren't particularly worn, just old.

I would go with the 165 x 14.  I have had them on my Fulvia for a couple of years now with no problems. I Put the origional 145s back on when i was cleaning up the 165s and the handling was not as good but the steering  was lighter .

No problems with 165 tyres on the narrow (4.5") rims?

Absolutely not, used for a few years and a lot of driving around Europe, Andrea

Bridgestone 145/80r14 available in blizzak  winter and ecopia b381 formats.

Both work very well with Fulvia.

Continental also did excellent winter tyres same size.

I have several part worn available free to good home (collection only) or have a look on the black circles or my tyres website
