Title: Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Motor Show
Post by: sparehead3 on 18 October, 2014, 10:50:31 AM
Details for Tickets are in the month's VL - Issue 555

If you'd like to include your car at the show (albeit virtually as part of a slideshow that I'm doing for the club stand) then please see here http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7564.0 - you just need to add your pictures via the club database.

Stand & Cars look great as usual, but there's the clever bit, making it look so good without visitors realising just how much hard work it takes to achieve such a professional look.

Well Done

Fingers crossed I'll be there tomorrow.  Anyone know which bit of which hall?   I'm squinting at the map...I was told it was a huge event but didn't realise just HOW huge...  Am going to need to prioritise.

Hall 8 - I found the search.

Hall 8 - I found the search.

Yes up in the top left hand corner near one of the cafes. I thought it may be a bad position, but there was plenty of interest yesterday on the Beta part of the stand, so would imagine today/tomorrow would be even more so.

As to prioritising, for sure. I found the layout very difficult as there are trade stands all intermixed with the club and commercial stands. The only areas with a consistent theme was the area for car sales companies and the area for the auction cars.

Have fun everyone, sorry I will not be able to join you this year.

                                  Andy

PS As NEC shows go, this is not that big. Try the gift trade Spring Fair in early Feb, it uses most, if not all halls. Exhausting  is an understatement.

PPS I have a note for a Restoration Show in March next year, is this a new venture? Does anyone have details? Is anyone thinking of going?

My colleague at work went to this this year and really enjoyed it (he's restoring an MGA that is in a similar situation to your B20).

Would be ideal for you I would have thought.

Thank you Neil. I cannot remember how I happened on it, but I will make a real effort to go. What I find about these shows is that you only need to pick up one tool, a bit of kit or a tip on how to tackle an issue and the whole thing is not only fun, but hugely worthwhile any effort or expenditure.

I think it is probably best to wander round on your own choosing your own areas of interest and how long you might want to spend at any one stand , but maybe there could be a LMC 'coffee and natter' meeting? That is if anyone else is interested in going.

Perhaps a mini-meet guys?

I was impressed with the scale and quality of the LMC stand.  Not too much to get round the lot in an afternoon with a bit of prioritisation.  There was a "restoration stage" with some ali welding and wheeling demos which was worth while.  I resisted tools - but William is pleased with some scalextric track at £1/piece.

Yes a nice stand thanks to those who volunteered their cars. Bigger thanks must go to David M, Simon D, Steve and Margret and all the others that help set up and man the stand. While we were there on Friday 4 new members were signed up and a lot more took membership forms. I hope the other days were as positive.

It was obviously a great show and I am sorry that I missed it. Great photographs, thank you everyone who has posted and I hope a few more to come yet.

Well done all those who were involved in the build, manning and breakdown for the benefit of the rest of us.

Great show and always fun to do. Nice to meet so many members (I gave out 3 new membership forms) and the public - who always love the cars. The owners enjoyed themselves too! Here's a little treat - as I don't do the photos as well as others - a clip of the Dilambda starting and leaving the stand : started first time, didn't disgrace herself on the carpet - what a girl!

Well done everyone, great stand and nice to catch up with those of you I did.

Just one little pedantic question ........... I thought you couldn't put a reg plate on a car which makes it appear younger than it is, so how come the Dilambda seems to have a 1967(ish) number ? or am I being really stupid about something obvious ?

Martin.

Hi Martin,

In those days if you imported a car the DVLA gave it a current registration and marked the Log Book with that year as the year of construction. Modestine (manufactured 1932) has a 1937 reg number as that was when she was imported. Ade's B50 is another case in point.

We have spoken to the DVLA and have applied for an age related number for the Dilambda. Modestine will remain ERF 294.

Robin.

Thanks Robin,
Makes sense now. I also didn't realise that even ABC 123 formats are year related.

Excellent pictures Tony ! In case anyone doesn't know who people are , the group shot behind the Dilambda is myself, Robin, Simon Davis and Chris Hopkins .... all with our arms folded looking defensive ! ( as I was told :) )

As a FYI , as several people asked, the slideshow was running on a Raspberry Pi - it was the very simple Model A version plus case and USB power supply - so costs around £30. You can buy these easily enough at Maplin - see http://www.maplin.co.uk/c/gadgets-toys-and-hobbies/projects-kits-and-modules/raspberry-pi - ( model B+ is the one to buy ).

The Slideshow downloads pictures from the club database (it knows how to do this with a program 'wot I wrote meeself') and then it'll happily play the slides it's downloaded whenever it's switched on without any special knowledge of how to run a computer.

If anyone has a Pi and wants to play, drop me an email and I can talk send you the SD card image , ( the basic command for running it was taken from a Raspberry Pi project magazine I saw in Sainsbury's .... )

And the lady standing with the Dilambda is the owner, LMC Member, Elaine Moore.
