Title: Oil pressure gauge
Post by: brian on 16 October, 2014, 10:32:57 AM
Now I expect I am teaching grandmother to suck eggs but.......
My S1 Aprilia oil pressure gauge read top max when engine switched off and stayed there.
I had a slipping speedo and so took off the dash to take it off and at same time took off the oil pressure gauge to try my Augusta one to see if the bits upto the gauge were working.
Before testing, I dismantled the Aprilia gauge - ingenious little devil and on gentle movement of the copper "bladder" the needle moved so I stuck the body of the gauge in a vice and eased the hexagonal nut on the back such that the needle was against the bottom stop. Only a mm or so was needed. I stuck it back on et voila on starting the engine it worked! Not calibrated of course.
Lesson.
Always use two 12mm spanners to fix the pipe as rotating both is a bad idea.
Now saved a bob or two on a replacement gauge and feeling VERY smug!!!!

Well done Brian. That sense of self satisfaction on the odd occasions when things go right is wonderful. I think I am overdue my next little burst of that, I wonder how much longer I will have to wait????
