Title: Rev counter drive?
Post by: DavidLaver on 23 July, 2007, 04:37:27 PM

I read that some Aprilias have a rev counter drive.  Where is that from?

The take off for the drive is at the back of the cam cover just near the bulkhead. This is probably the only practical arrangement.
If you look carefully at the middle photo in my posting "a thing of beauty is a joy forever"  you can just see the location.

My Fulvia 2c has the same arrangement ;D if Aprilia/Ardea is the same then it wouldn't hurt to remove cable from back of the tacho, clean & regrease.

I already did.

Special tools required: 9 inch long fingers with joints that bend the wrong way. ;D  "oo er missus" als Frankie Howard would have no doubt said.

Any chance of some close-ups of that drive?

Having looked at the photos how did you get that finish?  What were the preperations and coatings?  I've never seen the like...  fabulous...

if I could figure out how to upload a decent sized photo it would be no problem. All I can attach are the thumbnails you see .The originals are sharp at full screen size but anything bigger than thumbnails won't load (for me). There must be a way of doing it as I have seen decent sized photo's on here in the past.

What program are you using to resize? I use Adobe photoshop elements 2, if you go into Image, resize- image size- then reduce the number of pixels in the width say to about 170, (the other dimensions will automatically adjust) then save-the next option should then say the size of the picture, if you want send 4 photos then the total of the 4 photos musn't exceed 128kb;
hope you have better luck than me, as lately I only seem able to send one photo (whatever the size) at a time.

thanks for the idea Brian. I work with a Mac and it took a while to find the right option. This is as big as I can make it for those that haven't forgotten what the original question was....
To send multiple photo's you need to keep selecting more attachments in the middle of the screen.

I have been following this thread with lots of interest, but have been reluctant to add to it because my knowledge of these things is from so long ago! But I am intrigued as to how you get images on the forum. So, here as a test piece (if it works) is a photo of my much loved and abused Aprilia in 1967. It didn't have a mechanical drive rev counter, but it did have an electronic one that was tricked to work off 12 volt dry batteries.

Lovely photo. I have equal difficulty keeping our cat off the warm bonnet as you appeared to do.

A 12 Gauge shotgun works wonders!  :o
only joking.
Cats on bonnet one thing, Scratches in the paintwork another.
Nice photo though Colin.

scratches in paintwork are just the almighty's way of reminding us that we shouldn't worship false idols.

those same scratches on a car in a garage are "patina" and add value.(in our hands we call it  "character" but it reduces value.)
