Hi All

I had this email sent to the forum by Robin Brown

"I am trying to contact the current/previous owners of the above Lancia. I believe the name was Buckle?
Buckle was a friend of my Father who bought a Lancia Lamda from him. I remember riding in it on my mothers lap!
Buckle is rumoured in the family to be my brothers Godfather.

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Further information supplied is as follows

"Car was based in Croydon Second World War until 1952.
Buckle was an Air Vice Marshall and flew in the Battle of Britain with my Father. Both were pilots in 111 squadron hurricanes."

"Lambda was IB 3165"

IB 3065 is in the current register 6th series lwb with very large headlights.

I may be wrong but...... A few years ago when at Oulton Park at a VSCC meeting, I remember seeing a Lambda which could well have been this one, I spoke to a lady who was with the car, and she explained that it was hers, and it used to belong to her father. His name was Buckle, I then explained to her about my father having had a Lambda  ( BCO 987), as he knew Buck (and his pipe) years ago . Somewhere I have a slide of Bucks well known Lambda, all in red, but the reg number escapes me at the moment, I think it was shortened chassis, It may help ?

I think it is likely that this Lambda was owned by Buckle’s daughter Jane who married Jim Baxter. The Baxter’s lived in Liverpool and for a time they ran a motor museum and workshop at Lark Lane in the Sefton Park area. I think there were two Lambdas in the museum, both bright red. Somewhere I have a picture postcard showing both cars – I’ll see if I can find it.

There is a son Barrie Baxter, who is a historic racer, recently known for his Tecnica Meccanica Maserati 250F. Sounds like good breeding to me.

Here is a scan of the photo from the Lark Lane Museum. Jim Baxter’s notes from 1986 on this photo are that “both Lambdas are 8th Series and the bikes are 50cc Maserati and 1929 Scott”.

There will be much more information on Buckle, his Lambdas and his pivotal role in the LMC in the forthcoming “The Book”, which we all await with interest.

We own the shortened chassis 1929 Lancia Lambda Torpedo (GO7254) once owned by Buckle.
It's now in The Netherlands.
