Title: Fulvia mileages
Post by: simonpowell on 05 December, 2013, 10:50:56 AM
Just motd my fulvia sport and I was really surprised to see that I'd managed to do about 1500 miles in it over the last year . Not a lot by everyday standards I know but  this was a lot more than I'd imagined . Anyway I thought it would be interesting to find out how many miles some of you hardcore fulvia drivers manage to rack up in a year . On another note one of my advisories was a small split to a driveshaft gaitor , is this an easy DIY job or do I need special tools etc.

Thanks and a merry Christmas to you all

Simon.

Hi Simon

Well done for using your sport. They need driving... ;D

I did 2990 miles in my Sport since April, and a further 3500 in my HF (also since April)!!  ;)

To sort your gaiter out you need a special spanner tool for the hub nut(s). Depending on which model you have the club can hire you the correct one. My method: take the drive shaft off the car, cut off the old boot, hold shaft in vice, knock the cv joint off with copper mallet, put new gaiter over driveshaft, renew cv grease as necessary, slip the ring shaped sleeve over the driveshaft outer circlip (assuming there is one fitted- should be...), with care knock the cv joint back onto the shaft and fix the boot, slip a small screwdriver up the shaft and boot to release any trapped air, do up boot circlip/tiewrap whathaveyou and put back on the car. Hub nuts need to be done up very tight so make sure the tool cannot slip off the nut......

If the split is advisory on the MOT it suggests that it is the inner boot that is split. This can be changed on the car with the outer joint still in the wheel hub. You will need to disconnect the drive shaft from the gearbox and lower it down, you should then be able to access the circlip on the shaft that holds the outer joint off. Once this clip is off then the joint should come off (it may need a tap or two with a soft hammer) then you can fit the new boot.

3,700 miles , including a trip from Dublin to wales for the north wales rally 400 miles ,  A trip to Goodwood for the Fulvia 50th 1000 miles round trip , various events and regular driving . I also replaced the cv boots after the wales trip which was the first trip since the car was restored , I replaced the boots during the restoration which was around three years previously , I was disappointed to have to change them again so soon .  :) thanks David.

Not as much as you Tim!
Since January 1st I've been to Brooklands twice, Fulvia 50th, AGM, Bedford Old Boys,St Johns Hospice Moggerhanger, NEC, and a number of other local trips, during the winter I try to take "Fay" out at least twice a month for a 40 mile spin, so I reckon I've covered about 3800 miles this year.
Next time out will probably new years day at Brooklands.

Ps, As Stan reminded me I forgot to list the Fulvia Knights Rally, although it's included in my 3800 miles.

Brian - you seem to have forgotten the 'local' trip to Turin, then to see Tim in SW France, then up to the battlefields in the north. That will bump it up!

Thanks Stan, but that's included, just forgot to add it to the list!

3,582 miles since March in the S2 Berlina but only 281 miles in the Fanalone down to not having the time to sort the transmission problem until now. 2,034 miles in the Dilambda.
