Title: Gearbox Rebuild
Post by: Angle Grinder on 26 November, 2013, 02:32:30 PM
If there's any money left over after my wife has finished her plans for doing up the bathroom  :-\, I'm hoping that I might be able to do a rebuild of my 1.8 Flavia Coupe's gearbox.

The gearbox currently has a lovely shift and doesn't suffer from the 1st to 2nd baulkiness that some boxes have. However, the gearbox is noisy in 1st / 2nd / 3rd and that would suggest worn layshaft bearings to me.

I have got a spare box, but it has a lower serial number (so probably older and higher miles). I have no idea what state the spare box is in and don't really want to swap it over as I suspect it will not have such a nice shift as the original.

The Clutch and Release / Spigot bearings were changed 2 years / ~1000 miles ago, so these parts are all good.

Has anyone experience of rebuilding one of these gearboxes? Are the bearings quite easy to source or are there some with awkward dimensions that aren't readily available?
