They are expensive cars to restore at the best of times because of the body construction, never mind the mechanics. But this one will surely go for spares although I have my doubts. What exactly of value are you getting for the money?

The paperwork........primarily.....some hefty prices being paid out there, making it more and more worthwhile for lots of folks to restore, for whatever reason

Also it would appear to be a 'non-car' in that it's a GTL (longer wheelbase than a true convertible, the least desirable of the 3 Touring-bodied Flaminias) that has been chopped - so would never be worth as much as a proper car.  I very much doubt the economics of restoration would make sense.  The GTLs did all have the most powerful 3C 2.8 engine though, IIRC.

Couple of years ago I went over to Ireland to pick up all the big bits from a 2.5 GT 3C a guy was breaking the heavy stuff he couldn’t ship including the engine, couple of gearboxes and De Dion, leaf  springs, 3 x front suspension, propshaft etc. The car was in very bad condition but he made more than this selling the carbs/manifold, glass, wheels, dashboard and the trim bits that hadn’t rotted away.

Where does a decent GTL sit then in terms of price? Obviously not as sought after as the convertible and not quite as pretty as the GT because the extra 100mm wheelbase and sharper roofline compromise it, but nevertheless still a lovely car. I have been watching prices for a number of months and they seem to range between £25 & £75k, have any actually sold for top money and are they likely to be a safe long term investment assuming you can purchase a reasonable one at the lower end of the price scale in the first place?

The GTL roofline dramatically reduces the visual appeal in my book - the GT roofline is exotic and sublime. The GTL looks like a Sunbeam Venezia, the GT a Maser 5000GT. I was offered a very nice GTL recently which the seller couldn't sell for 30k. You wouldn't want to get into one for much more than that IMO.
