Title: Lancia 2000 HF Coupe
Post by: Justin McArdle on 13 August, 2013, 05:43:04 PM
I am looking for a 2000 HF Coupe. Must be in very good/excellent condition. Does not need to be concours but should be ready to use for long trips.

Justin,

There's what appears to be a lovely one advertised on www.carandclassic.co.uk, 1973 Black with red leather (or vinyl?) interior, VGC, history in Botedale, Suffolk. £11,950ono. Sorry don't know how to add the link.

Cheers,

Paul.

Isn't this the one that has been mentioned before on the Forum? Nice in photos then pretty rippled on the side panels when viewed in the flesh? If it is, it was £8995 last time round (last year?).

Having said that did anyone see the silver Coupe sold on eBay this week. £7K and needing the windscreen out to repair a big hole in the front scuttle!

Yes I went up to see it and unfortunately it wasn't a very good example - although it looks very nice in the photos. The car was resprayed at some time (originally red) and the paint is rippled/cracked on one wing. There is a lot of engine noise  and it generally doesn't give  a very good feel.
The silver coupe on ebay sold for £7.4k. I was also put off by the hole in the scuttle - could cost a lot to put right and hopefully not indicative of other areas on the car. I hope that is all that needs doing and the buyer has got a decent deal.
My search continues. I hope to find something in the UK - otherwise it's off to Italy!!

And I am in France next weekend - on my bike to Britanny for a long weekend. May well try to have a look at this 2000HF whilst there. Thanks for the lead!

Further afield (Milan) if distance no object is a '73 2000HF Coupe in Lancia blue with light blue cloth interior, 46,000km, original car (looks great in photos), still has three stripes between wheels with recent expenditure on brakes, on sale for E10,000. Can be found on Autoscout24.it

I really fancy one with leather seats but thanks for the pointer. I am keeping an eye out on Autoscout24.it and Subito.it.

Justin,
I wonder if this lovely thing is still for sale. It has the seats you want, and do you really want an HF more than one of the last independent Lancia cars?

Hi Cesare
Appreciate what you say but I'm not sure (but stand to be corrected) that the 2000HF was too orphanised by Fiat.
The Lancia Flavia 2000 Coupe looks good but in my opinion is way is very expensive - especially for a LHD in the UK.
I suspect that there are better examples in Italy for much less money (€13000 seems to be the max for mint condition).
I will email you with more information.
How is the Aprilia? Hope to see it sometime!
Caio

A Flavia 2000 Coupe was my first real Lancia, way back in 1984! I kept it 15 years, and enjoyed its good performance, especially on secondary roads.

I can confirm that it is a good idea to pay top money for an excellent example, and only after a thorough personal inspection.
Doing the bodywork can be terribly expensive. You also want all the chrome and mechanics to be in top condition, as also the interior.
Be wary of semingly excellent italian cars advertised on the internet - you can be very surprised when you see them in the flesh!

Finally, I find the earlier Flavia 2000 to be better built cars than the 2000 HF, and with a more enjoyable 4-Speed box.
However getting that twin choke downdraft Solex carb to work well can be sometimes difficult. The Dunlop brakes also require good maintenance.

(As an aside, a french Member of the LCF was selling a top restored bronze 2000 HF, with leather interior, a few months ago. I do not know if that car - see photo - is still available - would also have been expensive)

Dear Sebastien
Absolutely agree with you about buying a good example. A few thousands extra at time of purchase can save many more thousands later.
Ditto re. Italian cars, it is essential to go and check the cars. Obviously, the climate of southern Italy lends itself to greater longevity.
I am still looking for a RHD coupe but not necessarily a 2000HF. I may even look at earlier 1800 Flavia Coupes!
Many thanks for you advice - much appreciated.
P.S. I check re. the LCF 2000HF

Thanks David - I had seen this but assumed that it would have been sold by now as it had been posted in January 2013.
Worth asking the question though - and close to the UK to pop across and have a look at.

Justin,

like you, i was looking for a really nice car (An 815 Coupe) and looked at all the cars for sale here in the Uk for over 2 years.

Eventually, I went to Italy and found the perfect car, never restored, never welded and what a difference that makes, having owned all manner of Flavias/2000`s over the last 30 years this one is head and shoulders above anything I have owned or restored.
You really can`t explain the difference in a car that has never been apart and restored compared to one that has.

So, I suggest that you look in Italy, its worth the extra effort.

Hi Bob
I came across photographs of your Flavia and I must say it is absolutely beautiful! I can understand what you mean about a car which is original and hasn't been restored/taken apart. There is an integrity which is difficult to quantify but very present.

I have been keeping an eye on the Italian websites and I think that I have come to the conclusion  that the quality of the interior is an indication of the overall condition. I know that it is not scientific but from a distance I am assuming that someone who looks after their car thoroughly will not live with a scruffy interior.
I am also looking at Richard Burt's 2000HF which I believe you also went to see but didn't like the colour? What was your impression of Richard's car. BTW I quite like the white!
Also, how did you find your Flavia in Italy?
Justin

Hi Brucie - had seen this but was (possibly foolishly!) put off by the numbers on the doors! More seriously, if I do go for LHD I think that I will go for an older Flavia Coupe. In the ideal, perfect world something like Bob's!!  :D
