Title: Period Rally Parts
Post by: Dilambdaman on 20 February, 2013, 07:24:26 PM
You will be aware from here http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5820.0 that we are attempting to return the ex-Barry Waterhouse Fulvia Fanalone CUC 20H to something akin to when he was rallying it in the early 70s.

We are searching for (at reasonable cost!):

A pair of seats  (Corbeau GT4 or Alpine with head rests? etc.)
2x full harness seat belts (Britax, Irvine etc.)
Halda Speed Pilot
Roll Cage
Sump guard
2x Cibie Super Oscas

We are on Ebay regularly but so far everything goes for more than our budget.

So, if you have something that you think might suit please get in touch.

Many thanks,
Robin.

Hi Robin. I would suggest you want a Halda Twinmaster, as the Speedmaster was used more for calculating average speed on long distance rallies. The Twinmaster is a double trip which can be calibrated to give overall distances and split distances in keeping with the organisers 'measured mile' on stage events. You will also need the speedo drive and a set of calibration gears plus the ratio chart. Contact Don Barrow at www.donbarrow.co.uk or phone him 0162542909. Expect to pay around £750/£1000. The option is a Retro-Trip which is considerably cheaper but lacks the period look of a Halda. Also try Clive at Autochron on 01442873345. Then of course you will need a pair of Heuer Monte Carlo matching stopwatch/eight day clocks complete with mounting plate. Now they are real money. Do not buy anything unless it is in working order, or better, been reconditioned, parts are impossible. So far you are in for about £4,000. Shall I stop now.

A sump shield is available via e-bay while Cibie Super Oscars (are you sure your not wanting Marchel?) can be purchased via rally equipment suppliers. You will need the diodes as well. Good luck.

Oh for the simpler times of my youth when you worked it out the best you could  in your head or on a piece of paper, as all the rally goodies were beyond our means, bit akin to doing sums in your head instead of using a calculator ::)

Thanks Peter, hoped that you would come up with some suggestions.

However, the two parameters we are working to are 1. finish up with CUC 20H as close as possible to as it was when Barry rallied it and in the attached picture you will see that he had a Halda Speedmaster. 2. to re-create a Fulvia as I would have rallied it in the 60s/70s and not  as a Gp4 works car. So, Cibie Super Oscars, Britax belts, Corbeau seats and probably a home constructed sump shield and roll cage! Ahhhhh…. those were the days!

I did have a Halda Twinmaster and wish I still had it as they seem to be fetching at least £1000 on Ebay. Was offered a Speedmaster for 300 euros at Retromobile and wish now that I’d bought it!

I have emailed Clive (Godsell I presume?) but not heard back. Presumably he is still rebuilding the ex-works, ex-jolly club Fulvia 1.3HF CJW 746H that I rallied in the 70s.

One forum member has come up with a BWE rear window sticker which will make a lovely addition. Many thanks Jonathan.

It is very, very unlikely that we shall be using the finished car in serious competition so we’re not particularly concerned with current regulations of even that the item be fully functioning!

Robin.

The Speedmaster looks so out of place, I can't image why he fitted it. There is a speedmaster for sale privately call John Dando 07703672020. Good luck

Yes, Peter, I was surprised to see it in the photo as I can't recall anyone using a Speedmaster on the rallies I competed in. So, perhaps we'll have a re-think and fit a Twinmaster if the budget will run to one. :o

I did get a very nice period Butler navigation light for my birthday last week!. :)
