Title: 2013 Mille Miglia
Post by: bruciebonuz on 15 February, 2013, 08:02:11 AM
A friend of mine has successfully applied to enter this years MM in his DB2.  He is coming from Australia for it.  His Dad owns a Fanalone very like mine.

Sadly I can't get there for the start so was planning to fly to Milan on Saturday a.m. to catch the end on Sunday and then fly back Monday.  Any thoughts, tips appreciated.

Thanks

Jonathan

Last year I flew into Rome, hired a Fiat 500 and drove north, stayed the night in a small town in the mountains, to  intercept the event during daytime next day, before the cars were due to arrive at the night control, same evening, in Rome. I returned the Fiat to the airport and took the train into Rome where I checked into my hotel early evening. The cars began to arrive around 22.00hrs but the large crowds made things very difficult. I took the opportunity, early next morning to tour the city and take pictures, before catching my flight home. It was a fantastic couple of days, but you need to plan in advance. You can check out my report and images by going to Retro-Speed on line. And a tip, if hiring a car, pay extra and use a well known company.

How about flying to Milan (best for me from Luton), hire car down to Cremona, stay there Saturday night, drive to Brescia on Sunday to catch the end, stay Brescia (if I can) Sunday night and fly out Monday?  Is that feasible/impossible.

I would be inclined to fly into Verona (although you would have to fly from Gatwick if going Easy Jet) and stay at somewhere like Desenzano del Garda, you would then avoid all the traffic around Milano

For timing reasons I need to fly from Luton so needs to be Milan or Pisa.  The latter could be a better option than Milan perhaps?

Fly to Pisa early drive to Passo della Futa stay overnight, drive to Brescia, stay overnight, out from Milan on the Monday?

Will take camera of course.  Plan is to fly into Pisa, head to Futa Pass then on to Modena to stay overnight before driving onto Brescia for the finish and then drive to Milan next day to fly out in the evening.  Will be a mad rush.  Likely to hire a Lancia of some sort of course (with top up insurance!)
