Title: Colour question
Post by: williamcorke on 12 February, 2013, 06:10:57 PM
Please excuse me if I've asked this before (and before anyone gets smart, I know the pic below is of an Appia...).

I want to know what the colour on this S2 Appia is called.  And the code(s) please.

In photos (always deceptive), this mid-blue looks very like the original colour of my SIV B20, as found under the b-post trim.

Have any of you ever seen a B20 this colour?

Here a 6th series B20 I know, based in Basel.
The owner says it is the original color.
Not quite the same, I know, but similar, and unusual.
Always very difficult to compare colors from photos, with different lighting conditions, etc.

Thank you Sebastien, I think the mid-blue looks tremendous.  There's no doubt in my mind that I will have #2959 painted in its original colour, but I'm still hoping to find the colour through a paint formula rather than by analysis of the remaining paint on the car.  Probably paint analysis and 'eye' is how it will happen in the end...

Does the Swiss owner of the mid-blue sixth series car have a paint code or reference, I wonder?

According to a text-only table in the Nada book "Lancia Ardea e Appia", blue colours for the series 2 Appia included Blu Pastello 1.812.2 Maxaloid/Max Meyer, and Blu Medio 1.812.3 Maxaloid/Max Mayer. The only other blue listed is Blu Scuro, which will be the well-known very dark blue.

Knowing that "blu" in Italian typically suggests darker blue colours, I would think Blu Pastello is the more probable possible match for your photograph.

The colour in the photo is lovely I think. A not dissimilar colour is Jaguar Cotswold Blue, if I am not mistaken.

Ciao

Cesare

William,
Dare i suggest that you try to keep your car its original colour? To the best of my knowledge the paint for 4th Series B20s was supplied to Lancia by Lechler and Lechler Italy will be able to give you the relevant colour codes for the range of blues supplied at that time..
And then if you speak nicely to Lechler UK they will supply samples of the colour(s) you select. I have found them very very helpful.

By the way I like the colour!

Chris

As far as I know the colour 'blu medio' is approximately the shade as in the photo below.
So what you are looking for as Cesare says is more likely to be blu pastello.

Looks very smart in that colour, Ade, was there a metallic blue in that shade at any stage in the 50s on Aurelias?

I don't think there would have been a metallic blue as a standard colour, only as a Pinin Farina special one like my B50 in Blu Sera.

Ok, might just have to stick to the blue medio in your photo....as I can't quite bring myself to paint it in its original burgundy red shade!

Christoph Grohe has an Appia for sale which looks to be in the same colour as your original photo: http://www.prewarcar.com/postwarclassic/classifieds/ad53147.html
There are several photos from different angles for you to compare the colour, not sure if it is the same as Sebastien's Aurelia photo though.

I found these pictures on the web, is this the colour you are looking for?

Here is a Glasurit catalogue from around 1990.  The colour looks similar to Ottanio arcadia LAN 186.  I attach a copy of the page.
