Title: Group 4 plates
Post by: chugga boom on 31 January, 2013, 09:01:10 PM
just a quick question, i've been sent some very good templates of strengthening plates that go on the inner wings of a fulvia rally car, my customer wants them fitting to his HF while its a bare shell and before paint as they apparently require welding in, i can figure out 1 of the 3 that goes between the front chassis leg and inner wing panel but have no ideas on the other 2, has anyone got any photo's of such strengthening plates fitted or any "works" reinforcing on a fulvia??

Might be able to help if you've got a photo of the templates.

The only photos I've got show the one that you know where it goes I'm afraid.

I think the second (middle) on may cover the diagonal welds on the inner wings under the battery tray (and in the same place on the other inner wing. They're quite prone to splitting.

Not sure about the third. I'll have a stare at my brothers car but no immediate idea.

This might not be much help to you but I saw someone fitting a plate like the second picture to the inner wing on the drivers side high up . As far as I can remember it was to stop the wing from cracking at the wheel arch. This was a few years ago I now know that the crack in the wing is because of the rear suspension mount rotting out. :)

My S2 1.3 had a crack on the near side along that diagonal joint, I had some strengthening plates added in my recent bare metal restoration and re-paint, we added an extra membrane inside the sills to give some more strength, which is mentioned in the club Fulvia book.

These are wing pieces we added:
